  1. Yes, DLNA works fine. It took a while, setting up a new home router, JRiver, wiring , etc but yes, it works great. Thanks everyone for your help. I have a few issues with JRiver, but can probably be modified with options, settings. It still never ceases to amaze me how all of these PC music systems default to sorting music by name and not track #. Of course, if all you are listening to is dance music then order doesn't matter. But most other albums pay a great deal of attention to the order of songs. Classical, opera, it goes without saying. Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, yeah, order is pretty important. Yes, this can be set by making track number the main sort, but why isn't this the default? I blame ITunes, but then again, I blame Apple for most everything... :-) [rant off] Thanks, again Rob
  2. Dragonfly is not supported on Vista. I've been struggling with this for the past week or so, thinking i was doing something wrong. Here's the reply from AudioQuest (who have been very responsive, I should have started with them!) Our experience thus far, is yes, Vista is the problem. Just in the response from our developers: This is a Vista issue. Not XP or 7. Gordon and I contacted the USB group at Microsoft. It turns out the group that writes the device driver for the volume control is a totally different group; meaning they don’t work together. The group writing the volume control/system control is too busy with 8 to work on Vista problems. So, for the meantime we will have a note on our FAQ page that says don’t use Vista. There’s nothing we can do about it. Kind of frustrating, guess I'll have to upgrade to Win7. The observed behavior is very low volume regardless of various system settings. I have read that it isn't possible to load RealTek drivers on IDT hardware but I might play with that as well.
  3. Hey, thanks for all the input. I'm kind of busy the next couple of days but I will let you know how it goes.
  4. Correct, I'm using wired. My question was more whether the ethernet input to the receiver had its own DAC, which you have answered (RTFM...) So how will JRiver know to output the audio via ethernet and not the usual speakers or Dragonfly? Or maybe it will become obvious once the system is set up. Thanks for your help.
  5. No more like Computer->ethernet->DAC (internal to receiver)
  6. Hi, I'm upgrading my college (70's-80's) setup and, while I have a fairly good technical (sw programming) background, all of the latest advances are leading me to a few questions. I've been reading a lot here, from CA's Academy on CD Ripping to configuring NAS servers, but haven't found the answer to my latest question. I'll be using a NAS, connected to my home network which is CAT5 hardwiring, not wireless (a whole other story). I've got a Marantz 5006 receiver (which took a while to set up. Things have changed since the 80's!). I also have the new Dragonfly which leads to my current questions: Is it better to use the Dragonfly as my interface to the amp/receiver or via ethernet? I have a separate CD player and LP player, which input is best for the DAC? The other inputs seem to be configured for component video (DVD, BD, TV etc) How do I tell my controller (JRiver on a laptop) which to use? (if I choose ethernet) Maybe it will become clearer as I set up the network (going to pick up more components today), but any input would help. Rob
