    Mog

I loved it too - have been using MOG on my home and work desktops for about a year. But, I now have my dream stereo built at home and I cannot play MOG from my iPad using logmein screen share app. I am running a headless mac mini system and when I try to play a track, the "player" window doesn't come up/open.
  2. The reason I wanted to use the Mac mini as the "always-on" file server was because the audiophile rack is in the same room as my desk/PC and I wanted my windows PC to be able to go to sleep/be quiet while I was listening to music. Also, I thought going apple all the way would be simple . . . yeah...
  3. Thank you for the responses. Let me explain the evolution of this system: I am a guy with an HP desktop running iTunes. Then I decide to build a high end stereo in my new house (cat5 eveywhere). I commit to keeping everything Apple lossless with apple phones/pad/TV/and probably my next desktop. So from reading this site and much more, I come up with the plan that I'll get a large capacity NAS, move my iTunes media to it from the PC, then run music to my new DAC/IntergratedAmp via the mac mini. I thought that if the mini was left running with iTunes then that woud be the necessary computer running to serve Apple TVs. Needless to say I have been at this for four days now and no success. The major problem now is that the Mac Mini will not see the shared music folder in the NAS (if it even sees the NAS on the network - which seems to be intermittent = bizarre). By the way, I am controlling the mini via free logmein app which prettymuch sucks = slow/freezes/ends sessions... I've spoken to apple who turfed it to synology. Synology has about a day turn-around time on a web support submission - so I am waiting. Is there a certain way I have to format my hard drives on the NAS to let Windows PC and Mac use the data? All I want is to be able to map my itunes on the new mac mini to the music on the NAS.
  4. Great primer from Akapod on this site: blog from 07-05-2012 at 01:27 PM. But I still have questions. I am building a system from scratch. And I wonder if my concept is going to work out. I want the Mac Mini (which will be on the audio rack, sending out to the DAC) to play its itunes files from a NAS that is supported/filled by my Windows/PC. The only thing up and running now is my old windows PC and a new synology DS411j (currently new and empty). I have seen instructions on how to transfer my itunes files to the NAS but I am hesitating until I figure out the whole Mac Mini-involved concept. Also, I wanted to use apple TVs at two other sites in my house to pull from my itunes library on the NAS. I understand that only works if some computer is running itunes. Will that work in this configuration if the windows desktop is not running? If the Mac Mini is the one left running will it allow the apple TVs to pull files from it, or does itunes have to be running on the main computer that is managing itunes? Does this setup make sense that the Mini is just seeing the itunes files via Home Sharing? Or should it all be rearranged such that itunes is being managed primarily from the Mini and then shared with the PC.
  5. Does anyone have experience with the PS Audio Dectet.
  6. Thanks for all of the advice. It sounds like I should plug the integrated amp into one socket of the 20A duplex and then a plug strip from the other half of the duplex for all of my other components. How foolish is it to use a lower cost (not 20 A) plug strip for the mac mini and DAC, etc...? Maybe I should plug the Martin Logans directly into some other wall socket...
  7. I am so excited to be building my first high-end stereo system. I have all of my components in house or on the way except for one piece. What should I do for a power strip/line conditioner? I need at least four outlets for equipment and then 2 outlets for my Martin Logan Ethos. I have recently moved into a new house that I designed to have a study/listening room. One the wall behind the stereo equipment rack is a dedicated 20 amp outlet. There is also a whole house surge protector. I have read comments for and against items such as a Furman line conditioner. I don't want to spend the money on a Generator like the PS Audio devices. If I get just a power strip then what do I choose to be responsible for my $20k setup that also makes sense with the 20 amp outlet. Please help, I know just enough about the electronics to be dangerous...
