  1. Nostalgia aside, I wonder how long iTunes will sync with iPod? I bought a Classic when its deletion was announced also have a couple on Nanos which I use running and on long flights. if that facility is removed, is thereban alternative to sync music and stuff on my osx mac?

    Trolls

A great cartoon I saw once - woman, in bed, calling "George, come to bed, it's late" George replying "But there's something wrong on the internet"
  3. Thanks for a (mostly) illuminating and useful thread. I am also looking to improve my desk setup. One question: starting with an open book, would you go for powered speakers (say Audioengine 2+ as a benchmark) or passive speakers and a small amp and separate DAC? Source will be mostly Roon with Tidal and my own ripped CDs on a NAS.
  4. It seems to me that all download sites and the labels that supply content to them are missing an opportunity. I guess a pdf of the booklet is better than nothing, but I'd like to see something more - something than can be shown on the net that is better than print. Have a look at some of the online magazines - New Yorker and Wired - and they have very good interactive material for articles as well as ads. They make you want to linger and drill down and not just skim. Wouldn't it be great to have similar content with a download? I suspect that the labels are still thinking hard copy - CDs are real, downloads are inferior. HDtracks have a stake in changing this.
  5. Naxos has launched an HD streaming and download service using the Orastream compression app. Naxos already has streaming as naxosmusiclibrary.com and downloads as classicsonline.com which cover all releases under the Naxos label as well as many independent labels. So far the music on the HD service is limited. My system does not allow me to properly judge the sound, though it does seem very good. A few dropouts which might be teething troubles. Does anyone have an experience with this service?
  6. When I try to search the site (I was looking for Bluesound) the results appear to show everything, whether related to the search term or not. What's up?
  7. Apologies in advance for a naive question, probably answered somewhere on the site, tho I can't find it. I am using Mac Mini running J River Media Centre in one room then wifi to an Airport Express in another, connecting to my amp via a 3.5mm jack and cable. There is a solid concrete floor between, so the wifi connection is not great - annoying dropouts. Connecting the two parts of the system by wire would be difficult - the concrete floor again. I am looking at Ethernet over Powerline. Can someone please outline the connections? I realize the signal over the powerline is digital, so I need a DAC between the powerline adapter and the amp. Is it as simple as Mac Mini to router, router to powerline adapter1 by ethernet, adapter2 to DAC, DAC to amp? Any other suggestions?
