Several years ago (in my bachelor days) I ripped me entire cd collection (something like 3,000 discs) onto a windows based Itunes. Not knowing anything about hifi at the time (and knowing only slightly more now) I ripped them at the recommended setting AAC encoded 128 kbps.
Now three children and a new computer later, I am realizing that everything I am transferring over sounds flat and lifeless. Other than going back and re-ripping everything (not an option) I'm looking for recommendations on how to make the best of a poor sound quality situation.
I recently purchased a new Imac computer (in my office):
21.5-inch: 2.7GHz
2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
1920 x 1080 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB
It is steaming to an Apple TV 3rd Gen. (about 45 feet away in my den)
Which is plugged into last years Pioneer VSX-1021 receiver

Which powers Five Bower & Wilkins Signature 7NT Speakers inwall in the den
http://www.listenup.com/B%26W+Signat...ure7NT-p-.html
I know this has a lot of potholes on it...the poor quality of the original rip, the streaming onto the appletv, and the use of the inwall speakers, but I consider those set pieces.
Is there any additional software or component that would bring this Frankenstein to life?
Two things I have been considering are:
1) Downloading a program like Decibel music playback software
2) Would something like the Peachtree Audio Dac*It between the AppleTV and the Reciever help?
Would appreciate any recommendations.
