  1. Currently I am using Audioengine D3 DAC as an interim measure whilst I look for a more permanent solution. Please recommend suitable desktop USB DAC ,that is "better" than the D3 . No headphone Amp needed as I am using Cord Jazz for that . The speakers are Swan M200Mk2 speakers . . Used DAC is also fine for the amount I am willing to spend. This is not my primary system . I just like nice sound while I am at the computer. Budget should be around $300 Tks
  2. I went and checked out the LSR305 . They sounded pretty good .Actually I was surprised . Now I am deciding whether to go for them or for $30 more +shipping to purchase B stock Swan M200 Mk3 that seems to have very good reviews , Unfortunately I can't audition before buying since it direct mail order only . Maybe the older Swan Mk2 will be good enough for me . Decisions decisions.
  3. Yes , there are Guitar centers near me. I would take a listen to them . Tks
  4. Would the LSR305 or any studio Monitor speakers be too revealing and clinical for relaxed listening while I am working on the computer ?
  5. I have read several of the threads regarding computer speaker selection but I am still undecided which to purchase. I need to get a pair of speakers for my computer because the internal speakers a very poor. For better sound at the computer i am using AKG Q701 headset , plus Codra Jazz headphone amp, and an Audioengine D3 Dac. While this is fine , I just hate to wear headphones over a longer period of time and I also prefer the music in front of me rather than in my head .I listen to mostly Classical and some Jazz including Vocals . I don't intend to add a subwoofer since I dont play games nor watch movies at the computer. BTW I will not be listening like a recording engineer so would prefer musical above analytical sound . I would be definitely listening in near field conditions . This setup is not for serious listening , for that I fire up the main system in the family room. I would prefer powered speakers for simplicity but would consider passive speakers plus used amp . I definitely would consider B stock speakers to stretch the $. My budget is around $350 The computer set up is in a corner of the home office so the back of the speakers will be about 8 inches from the side walls and definitely at an angle to the wall even after Toein. I am leaning towards either swan M200 Mk2 or PSB Alpha ps1 . Also open to other suggestions . Thanks
  6. Yes, I meant Onkyo NR3007 . I changed over to ethernet because the wireless connection was not good enough when streaming 1080p videos for HT. I use Serviio as server . Any better ones ?
  7. Currently I am streaming FLAC files via ethernet from my Sony Vaio all in one Computer to the Denon NR3007 Receiver . I am using Serviio as the DLNA music server. Can I assume that for the computer the only important part is the speed of the computer and the RAM size and that the internal sound card plays no role since I am not using headphones ? Computer speed is 3Ghz and Ram is 4G. Which is the weak part of this signal chain . Is ethernet link the best I can have since the computer is in a separate room from the Stereo system? I realize that the Onkyo's DAC (whist pretty good) can be bettered with an external DAC . I will get one later but there is no point getting a better ext DAC if the Delivery chain is not up to snuff.
  8. Are you saying that I need some form of "reclocker " for the Metrum to really perform? I live near Portland OR. So need to check around for Audio Stores there.
  9. Decware Zdac-1 is now discontinued Metrum Octave ( NOS DAC) is well reviewed at 688 euros . They told me you can order from Hifiheaven.net
  10. Does the Power Cord with the EMI ferrite cores make that much of a difference?
  11. I know there are lot and lots of DACs out there but I am trying to find one that suites my system best for 2 ch music. I use an Onkyo NR3007 Receiver for HT but I use the following for 2 ch music. Preamp is Jolida Fusion ( with NOS tubes) , Odyssey Khartago SE++ for power amp, Salk Song Towers for speakers, Energy EAC Xover for Sub (for 2 channel music only) . Sub is SVS NSD -12 and EQ to the room using BFD and REW sofware. I do not use Onkyo Audyssey for 2 ch listening. My sources for music are Oppo 980H and streamed FLAC files over ethernet from my computer. I am currently using the Onkyo's DAC for CD and streamed music.( Onkyo in Pure Audio mode) . I think I can do better with an external DAC but there are so many to chose from that I dont even know where to start. I listen to Classical mostly , some Jazz and misc popular music. I do not like the DAC to be too analytical and sterile but something that is smooth and can listen to for a long time. I suppose with a tube preamp in the chain, there is not real need for a DAC with tube stage. Also I don't need USB inputs as I stream music with ethernet. Can you folks help with some suggestions. I am not opposed to buying used . I have no real preference whether the DAC is NOS or upsampling . I do want to stay around $1000 Thanks
  12. I didnt mean to start a discussion on RR Pricing Policy. Sorry about that. Reference Recordings are excellent. I have a bunch of them, Vinyl and CD. However I purchased them when I used to attend the yearly CES Show. They were going for a lot less than what they are asking now at retail.
  13. When I click on "save as" I get empty files . Did I do something wrong ? Tks
