  1. One day I removed the cheap internal cable from my naim sbl and wired them with the most expensive van den hul, silver, teflon... I killed my beloved sbl, my god! They lost the soul. Big mistake! I'm afraid of upgrades - not that I am against, not at all! But one must be carefull. Once again: implementation.
  2. Well, I just want to add to what I said: A dac is not better, (or a cd player), because it as a tube output... Many years ago, I had an amc cd player; this cd player had an option : A tube module as output or a non-tube module. I had both, and for me the non-tube was better, but in some context, it was better with the tube output. A few years ago, I had the CDP 7 LECTOR, very famous, with a tube output. This cd player was compared with much much more expensive cd players, but for me it had a boomy bass, too round for my taste. Some people call it musical... For me it is just fat and the player was sweet, not so musical - for me it is a good cd player, not a killer, nothing special, in fact. At the same time, I had a shigaraki cd player, (no tube output!), and it was for me a thousand times better! Goldenote make some affordable cd players. The same models with or without tube output. For me, the goldenote players with tube output are better than the non-tube. In this case, goldenote knows how to do make tube output - not boomy, not fat, direct sound, not "sweet". Very musical. Take the exemple of Verdier tube amps. In the past, Verdier used to make a power with 60 watts. It was a beast. At the time I had a 250 power amp from naim - I had a naim set with the cds, 52, 250 and sbl. The verdier was more "solid state" than naim in certain points - a very, really neutral amp - even better than the naim 250, in the same fields. I mean, and again: implementation! Something thaht some tweekers, (please no offense), don't know. It isn't only about components. Ex, Kenny Sh... from marantz, used to say that in a cd player is not the quality of the crystal that counts, but how it was burned... so, a cd player doesn't "see" if it costs a lot of money... For a cable, coton may be better than carbon or teflon... but it depends!
  3. Hello! First: I am new in this forum and one of the reasons that motivated me to make my inscription was this review about the Weiss dac 202. Second: You will have to apologise my poor English. I live in France. I will do my best to express myself with simple words and may be some mistakes. Sorry for that. Third: I have in this moment a Weiss 202, so I would like to add my opinion. I am just an hifi addit and a very experienced musid lover, from kid. My father was a "melomane" and my mother a pianist ans music teacher. I saw Bill Evans and Dizzy G with 14 years old. And Grapelli, etc. I was used to music before beeing able to talk. Realy! Fourth: I am not an electronic "connaisseur". In fact I know nothing or very litle about hifi tec mambo jambo. Lets go then to the point. One of the things that I realy like about the weiss 202 is that it sounds great with "average" audiophile components. It is for me a reminder that principles and choices are more important than components. Of course that I've nothing against better component quality. The weiss has a very inteligent and objective design, I am talking about layout, and 202 layout is great because it works. The point is that you can make good italian food with three or four ingredients, but there are things that you have to know. I've heard this dac in a system where it sounded like without charme or musicality. Be carefull with associations. Weiss 202 can sound like a machine, or a robot. Correctly implemented in the system, the weiss is very honest and musical, even sweet. For me it doesn't impose to much of a musical feeling. According to the piece of music that you are hearing, the musical experience from that artist who is playing can be physical, emotional, sad or intelectual, and the weiss lets you understand the kind of feeling that is in the record or file. I like this dac for beeing "musicaly neutral", this corresponds to my conception of musicality. Hi fi are not instruments of music and I find that many audiophile fans dont't see the line beetween musical instruments and reproduction devices. Anyway, with this dac I can hear Ravi Shankar or Mozart, or Stan Getz, or Steely Dan... or Stravinsky. And it makes me dream or smile or danse, depending on the music. I could not disagree more with this review, with all the respect. For me it is just a point of view, and every point of view must be respected, as mine does, just a poin of view. Not a court sentence, when we are talking about something so subjective. After all, you listen. If you like, you like. If you don't, you don't. Me, I like it!
