  1. So I've been reading this thread and it answers a lot of questions for me too! I have a few questions if you guys don't mind and would appreciate any answers/suggestions! A little background: I recently switched from apple back to PC and my specs are as follows: i3930K, Gtx690, Sabertooth x79, 16 GB Corsair vengeance and HX1050 PSU. I built this system mainly for video editing and sound design (but I also game with this system and use it as a media player). My speakers are the M-audio BX8 D2 (though I am seriously thinking of upgrading to Adam's A5X) My headphones are a pair of Grado PS500 As for audio interface, currently I have the: - Asus Xonar Essence ST - Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 The scarlet was recommended by dudes at guitar center and although I like how flat sounding it is, I honestly don't need the inputs. Also, the 2i2 is terrible for headphones (i'm almost always close to max volume). That said, I am really torn between the 2i2 and the Xonar Essence ST because I also like how pronounce the bass and highs are (without being overwhelming or muffling) on the essence ST. I can return any of these as it hasn't been 30 days yet but after reading this thread, I am leaning towards returning the 2i2 and getting the V-DACII instead. My questions are: 1) If I use the asus xonar spdif out to the V-DACII, does it mean I still get to use the Xonar Audio Center? I really like this software because it allows for fake 5.1 or 7.1 reproduction which makes gaming a lot of fun. What I don't understand is how to tell the xonar to turn itself off so that the v-dac will do all the digital to analogue conversion instead... or is it automatic? Also, since the xonar audio center allows you to change the sample rates, audio channel, etc. how does that affect the V-DAC? 2) V-DAc has only RCA outputs. and no headphone outs... - is using rca to my studio monitors recommended? Since the m-audio bx8 d2 only has xlr and trs ins. I worry that unbalanced cables might cause noise... - if I have my headphones plugged into the sound card at all times, will the xonar essence still power it? or would the presence of the V-DAC2 cause my computer to not recognize the card and hence not recognize my headhpones? 3) If in the future I would like to get headphone amps, is there anyway I can connect that to the v-dac? Sorry for these newbie questions, I would really appreciate any advice or comments! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this Best, J
