  1. I never fail to enjoy reading your reviews, and I have a real appreciation for the wonderful photography as well. Thanks for all the great work! One thing I've been wanting more from your reviews lately is more comparisons. I really like the way you engaged in contrasting the characteristics of Berkeley to the Linn. I'd love to see more of this! One other thing I'd love to get is some recommendations. While this product is distinctly different in many ways than, let's say the Berkeley, I'd love to get your take on preference and value. When the Linn costs a good 2 grand more, do you think you get 2k more in value or quality? Which would you rather sit back and listen to? Is there still something else in the ball park you'd be sure to check out before picking up a Linn? Thanks again for all your hard work, dedication to promoting the hobby and for sharing it with us.
  2. I'd actually look into a very simple, yet amazing sounding set of nearfields. Genelec 8240As sound out of this world and have a built in DAC and DSP. It's a complete solution minus a computer that can ouptut AES. I know you stated design is important to you and IMO these things are ugly as sin, but they really do sound amazing. They also might not put out enough bass for you depending on the room size. The other thought I had is we really don't know enough about the application at hand to give good suggestions. What sort of listening do you do? Primarily TV/Movies or Music? Do you do any recording, mixing, or mastering? What are your room dynamics like? How large of a space will your listening area be? How far do you anticipate sitting from the monitors?
  3. Are we to assume that you are using this as a front end to either a NAS or server? If that is the case I'd say the I3 is overkill unless you plan to do other things besides play music. I'm a big fan of AMD's E350-E450 APUs. Roughly the same power as the Atoms but significantly better performance. I'm also curious as to the specs on their power supplies. I didn't see them anywhere on your link. The power supply makes a pretty big difference. Especially if you are going to ever use the SOtM USB card that takes its power from the PSU and not the mainboard.
  4. I've been on the internet a lot in my life. This is the start of perhaps the coolest forum thread I've ever seen. You guys rock. Thanks for sharing.
  5. As for the TV. Try and find a used Pioneer Elite Kuro! They are hard to come buy, but to this day nothing compares.
  6. CAPS 2.0 is great, but a little outdated already. I would build a CAPS 2.0 with an updated mainboard. When it comes to lower power with video processing Intel doesn't hold a candle to AMD's flame. Get an Asus E45M1-1. The AMD E-450 APU is more than capable and still runs passively. It also has much much better graphics capability. That's all I would change though. Other than that the current CAPS 2.0 is great.
  7. It was fun to look though. What did you do with the Maggies?
  8. Yeah, that is largely why I commented on the USB signal. If you are using an SOtM or other decent USB output, I'd wager it would be the other way around.
  9. Current home system could use an overhaul. First thing to go is the condo though. If gets any better my neighbors will vote me out of the association. Current plan is getting some nice nearfields for the home studio and a new interface with better DAC/ADC. I just need to find a place to audition the Adams vs Dynaudios.
  10. I would suggest the Berkeley if you are going this route. The whole reason to buy the Antelope is there insanely good clock. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it would sound better with USB strait from the computer. Especially if you have a good clean USB output signal from your computer. That said, this is one of the reasons I'd go for the Antelope over the Berkeley.

As unfortunate as it is, these days I generally need pain meds to enjoy music to the fullest. Otherwise the pain is just too distracting.
