    HQ Player

I've been using Geoff Armstrong's Play iTunes through HQPlayer script which puts hqplayer in a RAMdisk and it launches fine from there with Geoff's script. However if I try to launch HQPlayer manually from the RAMdisk I get the same issue reported here. Perhaps there's some clues in Geoff's script that may yield a solution. I'm afraid my Apple scripting skills aren't good enough to explore this.
  3. I am getting the same error. When I click on an album no songs from the album appear. The odd time a few songs will show up and they play just fine through HQPlayer. KunterK have you had any luck finding the source of the error?
  4. Hi Geoff I was able to get your initial version of HQ server working on a local machine. All of my files are tagged properly with track and disk numbers. It did seem to take much longer to load the first song and start playing than your non-server version. However once playing it works great. I will try your new version today. I want to thank you for the effort in putting these scripts together as it gives me the best of both worlds with iTunes as a front end and HQPlayer SQ. The time and effort you have put into building and supporting these scripts is not insignificant and is a great gift to the community. Thank you!
  5. I have the same motherboard on a CAPS Topanga and could not find a driver that would work with this motherboard on Windows 8.1. The latest graphics driver available from Intel will only work with Windows 7 32 bit. I'm able to run Roon with this configuration however the graphics suck and you cannot read most of the text on Roon. I can run Roon as a server in this configuration (Windows 7 32 bit on the CAPS) and use my MacBook Pro as a remote to set it up but it's not an ideal solution. I'm waiting for Roon speakers so I can run it on my caps Topanga. There's a lot of documentation online regarding the lack of graphics driver support for this motherboard for newer versions on Windows. I'm all ears if you find a solution!

+1 I've got to stop reading this thread! 3 months ago I didn't even know what a Ramdisk was never mind how to create one. Now I'm sitting here listening to "What's New" by Linda Rondstadt, with HQPlayer running from an SD card rescued from my camera, and files sourced from Ramdisk, all going through a recently purchased used CAPS Topanga running NAA on Ramdisk created by Softperfect. While I can't yet comment on the specific improvements made in the chain from Ramdisk, SD card, NAA etc., I am currently listening with a big smile on my face! The critical evaluations of each will come later. I used to be a big vinyl listener prior to packing up after retiring and moving south to Mexico. Digital has been my only source of music since moving and the improvements made to my digital chain have brought back much of the joy I derived from my vinyl collection. Plugging in the SD card, mounting a Ramdisk, and copying files into it sorta brings back the preparation and routine involved in settling into a good vinyl session. Thanks to all the contributors here who have generously shared their knowledge which led to the current configuration I'm listening to.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if I'd missed something so now I'll await the release of Roon Speakers.

If you're open to using iTunes and you have a Mac you could try the iTunes script Geoff Armstrong posted in the following forum: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/showthread.php?t=24281 It gives the best of both worlds, iTunes library management and hqplayer sound quality. Unfortunately no DSD though.
  9. I have a question regarding the server/remote functionality. I have a CAPS machine running headless connected to my iFi Micro DAC. I'd like to use my more powerful MacBook Pro set up as a server and control the music playing from my CAPS/iFi Micro from it but it appears the current restrictions with private zones does not allow this. I currently am running the caps as a server and MacBook as a remote to get around this but the caps is not really powerful enough to do an adequate job as server. Is there a way I can accomplish my objective to use the MacBook as a server currently or perhaps in upcoming releases?
  10. I had a similar problem and it was related to the tagging of tracks and discs in iTunes. Tracks needed to be identified as 1, 2, 3 etc of n and discs needed to be the same even if only one disc (1 of 1). Most of my albums did not have any disc tags when there was only one disc. Suggest you check your file tagging in iTunes and re tag a couple of albums and see how it works for you. The iTunes taking over behaviour ends when the script has finished running and ramdisk is loaded.
  11. Well, after one day of the trial I'm in for a lifetime....For me my music hobby brings me much enjoyment and listening to music is an emotional experience. When using the Roon software it reinforced how important it is to have a nice visual experience as well as an aural one. While it most likely doesn't make the music actually sound better, Roon's visual rendering of my library seemed to enhance my enjoyment of my music collection. Also the ability to dig more into my library aided by the Tidal integration is a great way to discover a broader range of music.

Tranz Geoff Armstrong has done a lot of work creating scripts to actually allow the use of iTunes to feed music to HQPlayer. Check out his thread here: Play iTunes through HQPlayer I've just tried it out today and it works as advertised allowing you to use iTunes, your iPad remote and play your music through HQPlayer. His last post in the thread has the latest script which also allows the use of other formats such as Apple Lossless. Suggest you check it out.
  13. Hi Geoff I just tried your new script and it's working perfectly. HQPlayer with remote control and a good library management system that plays almost everything thrown at it....priceless! Once I've had some time with it I'll respond to your request for comments. Thanks Geoff for the contribution you've made to all of us!
  14. Thanks Geoff Here are my music folder permissions: Rick
  15. Hi Geoff Given I have my music on a time capsule I'm not exactly sure how permissions work. I know I've never had a problem with iTunes writing to my files. However just for fun I moved some of my music files to my local drive and changed the iTunes default library location to my local drive where the files were. I'm getting the same permission error and behaviour is all the same. One thing that did show up afterwords (after the permission error) is "iTunes got an error: File file Macintosh HD:Users:Rick:Music:itunesNow.m3u8 is already open. (-49)" This happens when iTunes is pointed to the time capsule library as well. In both cases when there's no disc info the script writes 1 of 1 into only the first song in the Album. I really appreciate the help with this, it's proving to be a good learning experience. Rick
