  1. I intend to try this but I'm a little confused by the diagrams u name as option 1 or option 2. Could u please clarify which one worked ? Thanks
  2. U mean with ML on the SD card?
  3. This is what I did.. Installed OSX Mountain Lion on the built-in SSD, installed Amarra symphony 3, applied the default Amarra optimisations, & Created a Ramdisk to play the music files. No CAD script yet or any other tweaks. The above clearly surpasses my previous Mavericks on the SD card (with loads of optimisations applied) not just in terms of SQ, but in terms of speed & usability as well. I have not even bothered to make the Quit command available for the Finder yet. Nor has the Time Machine or other services/kexts been disabled. It sounds far more Musical & detailed than the Mavericks on the SD card. As of now, there are 72 active services, but inspite of all those numbers, it takes a substantial leap in terms of SQ, which is the purpose of this thread ! I do not know if it's the ML that takes credit, or is it the OSX on the SSD & music files off the Ramdisk. And I don't intend to go anal on that for while atleast. Musicality it is !!!!
  4. I'm a bit confused at this. How do u run the script??

Yes learnt it the hard way. Had to re-do from scratch. After optimising using the CAD script, I now run the sudo tmutil enable command to re-enable Time machine & take the back ups. After the back up is complete, run the 'sudo tmutil disable' command to disable it again. CCC sucks !

Tried reverting back to the previous CCC backup & after restoration, Amarra failed to load. Had to format the card & re-install Mavericks. Now the OS has become very slow & responsiveness has gone down substantially. I guess the SD cards are very sensitive to how they are being managed.

Agreed !!! After a certain stage, we need to be very cautious. At 47 processes, it was quite ok. Now at this stage its all but 'balanced'. I'm in a fix if to listen for some more time at the stage I am, or to restore to my earlier backup at 47. I guess I'm wasting my time on Activity Monitor past the 47 mark

Yes with Mavericks.. Since my last post, I'm down to almost 41 processes now. But funnily, there is no improvement in SQ from my previous 47 to where I am now.

At the end, it all boils down to how it sounds. Hours of tweaking & deleting/modding can lead to bias that it sounds 'improved'. It has happened to all of us. Only extended listening sessions to recordings we are very familiar with, can let us spot out the 'improvement' out of the 'change' ( ofcourse this has to be done after taking a break from whatever we had been painstakingly working on). After tweaking a certain part of the OS, I make it a point to listen extensively & I make a back up (using CCC from another healthy OS partition ) 'only' when I feel the performance has really changed for the good. I've started on this subject since like a week now. And I'm curious to know where this will end up

Thanks. Well it was kinda combo. I started looking for active processes & then quitting them one by one to see if they created any Unstability. Then I did a quick Google search to find out what each process was responsible for & then trashed the offending files from the launchdaemons, launchAgents, coreservices & frameworks folders. Rebooted each time to check for stability. From what I have heard by reducing the number of processes, I found that deleting the kext files had a similar effect. So I find it difficult to believe that it's all about reducing the number of active processes alone. Reducing the processes sure 'changes' the sound, but I'm not sure if I can really call it an 'improvement' to be honest. This again reminds me of the cMP2 days where the default install had only 11 active processes. But deleting the drivers made the most improvement.

@ alsterfan, Thanks for the new list of deletions. I had deleted all those, except Sandbox, as my computer wouldn't boot without it..

I'm at 47 processes (including Activity monitor) & 207 threads as of now. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjjabcjchgr8t1p/20150301_165722.jpg?dl=0
  13. Thanks. Very helpful information. I was thinking if there is a way to underclock (more like undervolt) the cpu such that it produces far less heat so that we can eliminate the fan altogether. We kinda did the same with the windows machine by reducing the number of cores used to a single, & under-volting it & bypassed the processor fan. Even without any passive cooling, it worked just fine forever. The trade-off being just a little performance loss in terms of speed, which is almost negligible if using the machine for nothing but audio. MacRumors Forums - View Single Post - Yes! I underclocked my MacBook Pro
  14. Just a small clarification. U mentioned that it needs a mere 3.5vdc to power the fan. But on the pic u have attached, it shows that the fan runs at 12vdc rated around 0.5A. Or have I mixed up something?
