  1. Yes. The solution for me was to buy an Apple Airport Extreme. My old wireless config included a dual band wireless lan (2,4/5) and a wireless lan repeater. Under those circumstances Aries found my wireless lan three times in the setup dialog for the available wireless connections. App handling felt very slow and buggy. It's much better now. The software is still buggy for me but useable overall. Here are some examples. - It crashes sometimes in the settings dialog after I have changed something there - I hear popping noises on starting new tracks that remind me on good old vinyl days - Airplay does not work when Aries is connected via USB to my DAC (scrambled sound) I use the DAC from Accuphase DP-720 which I see two times in the settings dialog when connected via usb. Makes no sense to have it two times there but doesn't do any harm it seems. best regards from a beta user
  2. No problem for me updating the firmware in wireless mode (without lan cable being connected). After reboot of Aries it connected to wireless network again without any issues.
  3. Firmware 2.2. - Airplay does not work for me. Scrambled sound via USB connection. - Coax seems not work anymore.
  4. I own both HD-800 and LCD-2. HD-800 is much better for classics (and all around) in my opinion, but try yourself. It may well be that the headphone amp from your DAC would be good enough for the HD-800 for now. I sometimes use the HP amp from my Zodiac Gold + HD-800 and it is very enjoyable. But beware, the HD-800 is a very transparent and neutral headphone. If your system tends to be bright, HD-800 will mercylessly unhide it. LCD-2 is much more forgiving.
  5. HD-800 is a fantastic headphone especially for classics. It is MUCH better than the lower models you are aiming at. This $1000 investment would really pay off, in case you listen to headphones often enough. But you probably would want to spend some extra money for a good headphone amp, in case you don't have one already. I don't like the looks of the HD-800 either (I hate Star Wars;)), but SQ and comfort is extraterrestrial. I'd say it is almost as good as my STAX SR-009 which is far more expensive. Price performance-ratio for the HD-800 is very good.
  6. You love classics? Never listen to a HD-800 then...
  7. Isn't Amarra a 32-bit application? How much memory can a 32-bit application allocate on MacOs ML?

  10. Right, I forgot my Loewe Television which I do not use. So I have (at least) 15 DAC chips. May be I should sell something..
  11. 1 x iPhone 1 x iPad 1 x iPod Touch 1 x iPod Classic 1 x iPod Nano 1 x Antelope Zodiac Gold 2 x AMR DP-777 1 x Fostex HP-P1 1 x ThinkPad (old) 1 x ThinkPad (new) 1 x MacBook 1 x Desktop Computer (old) 1 x Desktop Computer (new) -------------------------------- = 14 DAC chips
  12. AMR DP-777 is also one of those "Redbook wonders". Very enjoyable in the long term. There will be an DSD update for the DP-777 sometime, but I think there is no rush. There is music and there is something to fiddle around with (hires dsd etc;)). An investment in a DAC which is very good at Redbook playback is always a safe, future-proof investment.
  13. If I use the iUSB with my Antelope Zodiac Gold, I can cut off the USB power as soon as my Macbook has been able to detect the Zodiac. With AMR DP-777 that's unfortunately not possible. AMR's DAC needs the USB power all the time while playing music via USB. I wonder why.
  14. I asked AMR about native DSD support for the DP-777 and it seems it will happen. Nice!
