Do you have any experience with high-end music servers? I just use the Berkeley USB and it give me great sound from whatever PC or Laptop I have it connected. Thus, I've never worried about purchasing some of the better servers.
-
Well Berkeley is fast. I got the upgraded unit back. The sound certainly changed. I'm curious as to how they were able to change the sound. The easiest comparison I can make is that is sound very analog like now. I'm getting sound much closer to what an album, record, sounds like now. I'll let it break in some and see how it changes. It seems like the sound is fuller now as for frequency balance. The Series one had more of a top end tilt in my system but not as much mid-range as the upgraded unit. The new unit has a more natural sound.

I would say it's still relevant. I just had my Berkeley USB upgraded to series 2. Cost was $220 plus shipping and $30 for new box if you don't have the old one. Berkeley promises improved audio quality. MIne should be back in a few days. I can't wait to try it.

I received my Vanity Pro a few days ago. The model I have is the multi-channel with 4 BNC outs. It's actually heavier than my Berkely Alpha USB. I plan to see how it does against the Berkely. It doesn't have to beat the Berkeley. It has to beat the other multi-channel interfaces I have used, the Lynx AES16e and the Minidsp UDIO-8. They were all handily beaten by the Berkely USB. Amir measured the UDIO8 and the Vanity Pro is blowing it out the water with much lower jitter. However the Vanity Pro is 4X the price. If the Vanity Pro can get me closer to the Berkely USB, I'll be pleased. If it can match it, I will be ecstatic. -

And you would relinquish the Super Discomatic upmixer? How are you gonna live without the ability to mix even mono to 7.4.1? My gawd man? It's only an extra 25k :D -

The Theta Casablanca V has analog inputs and analog volume controls. Much better measurement than Trinnov.Trinnov sounds muffled compared to the latest processor with the best dacs. The McIntosh processors are great sounding processors. If I had to pick from list, it would be McIntosh. -

I don't think you get audio out from the HDMI output,? Maybe only video? Maybe I'm confused but that seems to be the case? -

Right! And starting with I believe the Casablanca IV, Theta introduced "Jitter Jail II" to expand the previous circuit to allow for the reduction of jitter from HDMI sources. I'm not sure if even Theta with its's dedicated HDMI jitter circuit, can match Audiopraise's numbers. I"m going to have to try this product. -
