  1. That’s the one I settled on (albeit with the CLTO). I would concur — only I didn’t notice any extra brightness.
  2. No luck on the 1. General I2S or the Aufiophonics ES9028 (tried most of the other ESS sabre options). Neither did generic 1 & 2 I2S option work. I initially had success with the second one - “i-sabre -q2m and I2S general“, but was downsampling dsd and made horrible noises between tracks. I think I have exhausted the ones mentioning I2S and ess-sabre. I’ll try more hat options. But appreciate suggestions 🙏
  3. Thank you so much! I will remember to check the manual next time. I appreciate the lightning fast reply too! 🙏
  4. DAC output option? I just got a Rpi with Ian Canada FIFO Q7 with I2S output on top. I have not been able to get GP to recognise my Audio GD (R-27) DAC that is connected by a generic hdmi cable. AGD uses the same pin configuration as PS Audio (but didn’t see that in the drop-down menu, either). I tried the generic I2S, Ian FIFO II and the Denafrips I2S, but no joy. I would appreciate any suggestions 🙏
  5. Wow! I only now checked out your very impressive rig! Envious. I am using an older AGD R-27 (new clocks, F1 XMOS USB input from Magna). I did try your settings, and a few others more randomly to see if anything could get me back to where I was.. uninstalled MPD, UpMpdCli, APlayer and APrenderer.. then installing just APrenderer.. nothing seemed to help.. But this morning, DSD is back on! It’s as if when I turn in the DAC, APrenderer either identifies it as DSD capable or it doesn’t? Really don’t know what’s going on. I do get pops when switching between sample rates (on MPD), but generally not as loud as what I was getting with APrenderer between tracks on the same DSD album. As a parent now, I haven’t had the time I did to tinker much with audio.. but seeing how you’re using your R-8HE with HQPlayer, you’ve got me curious. (I used to use Audirvana and enjoyed Sox up sampling with my old ESS Sabre chip, but hoped to avoid that rabbit hole with the the R-27. But may have to try HQP later this summer… I’ll be staying in Nijmegen for a month from late October.. so do DM me if you were up for letting me visit you. Next time I lose DSD, I’ll try reboot long the DAC .. I appreciate your time 🙏
  6. Hey @bodiebill Wondered if you could help. As I posted on the gentooplayer thread, I’ve just been dabbling with APrenderer - probably thanks to your posts on it there! I’ve enjoyed its sound (local micro-SD cards —>Minimserver—>BubbleUpnp—~>APrenderer). But I’m having trouble with DSD files. It was able to play some downsampled to PCM, but it’s not doing so as native or DOP. But once upgraded to GentooPlayer 8.20, it actually recognised my DAC as DSD- capable) for the first and only time. It then played DSD natively - sounded good, save for some very loud pops (same volume as music) between tracks and albums on some (but I don’t think all?) DSD files. i then switched to MPD before going back to APrenderer. It wouldn’t play and needed to restart the players. When I got it back, it no longer recognised my DAC as DSD-capable. Gentooplayer and MPD do, allowing me to play up to DSD 256 without any pops between tracks. I have tried changing settings on APrenderer, gentooplayer, rebooting PC and DAC.. all to no avail. As I haven’t been able to navigate the AP forum with any success, I hoped you or someone else using AP might have some tips or suggestions. Any ideas are appreciated 🙏
  7. My bad - missed that! Thanks for pointing it out Filippo! Appreciate all the tips. Currently, I’m only able play DSD when converted to PCM. Native DSD option is greyed out. And when playing DSD files using DoP, I only get a high pitched noise (not white noise). No music. For giggles I tried upsampling PCM to DSD, but the file would not play. I can switch to MPD for DSD files if desired, but would like to get AP2Renderer to work play DSD natively - if possible (read that AP did play native?). Sorry to veer off topic. I can take further questions up on an AP thread. But thanks again Filippo - tremendous work. Despite having these little kinks trying AP2renderer, I’m getting some glorious sound. Thank you 🙏
  8. Thank you so much Zack! 🙏 .. how did I not search the thread.. 🤦🏻 I look forward trying it. maybe the port addresses could be added to the web interface for easy access for other noobs.
  9. Album Player / AP2Renderer Just trying it for the first time via GentooPlayer. I like the sound better than MPD. I’m using Minimserver, BubbleUpnp on x86 PC (single PC). But I’m getting pops between tracks on DSD (DSF) albums (not PCM albums). It’s the same for gapless and non-gapless albums. I don’t have this issue with MPD. I would like to play with settings to see if there’s anything I can do to fix it. But can’t find them. How do see change the player’s settings? Any suggestions?
  10. Thanks Filippo, but that’s not working for me. I just tried logging into the ‘admin’ page… and also trying to access my samba share… I don’t imagine there would be a workaround for this?
  11. Quick question — anyone know the default admin password? I thought this was it… but doesn’t work for me.. I tried a few variations.. but no dice… username: gp password: gentooplayer
  12. late reply to answer my won query… i don’t think it’s an issue with GentooPlayer. I don’t quite know what is going on, but it’s like certain buggy/corrupted DSF files aren’t being read correctly when going through my Audio GD R2R DAC (but handled okay by old ESS 9018 DAC). Another question — how do unmount drives? Previous GP versions allowed me to type in commands (like umount /dev/sdc1). (I have some issues when I shutdown and boot up again — not all my drives show up each time, so try to avoid shutting down when I can, but need to update my library the old fashioned way) P.S. Filippo ( Antonlllo Carolli) has been amazingly supportive having stepped in and fixed my computer numerous times. I am incredibly grateful for the efforts he has put in making such a great system. Hats off to the man! 🎩
  13. I don’t know if this is GP or my DAC, but I suspect it’s related to an issue with MPD. I am getting some very annoying treble distortion when playing DSD. I hear it through my speakers and headphones. Never through PCM. It’s like a high-pitched whirring sound that persists at low levels (most apparent in quiet passages of music). I have not been able to get squeezelite working (I had used it before), so haven’t been able to check alternatives Has anyone experienced this before? If not, it must be my DAC :-/
  14. As I never use it, I forget you have the FB account. My bad. I’ve been most grateful for the ability to update so easily, but appreciate that’s not always possible
  15. Hey @antonellocaroli would it be possible to get notifications for major updates? I missed the last major update, so I had to do a complete fresh install to update. I leave my PC in RAM mode and leave it on 24/7, so rarely dip into the web interface to check for updates and not following the thread much (as GP is working so well!). GP is sounding fabulous — thank you for keeping it running and sounding so fine! So wondered if there was a way to get notified for each major release - maybe an email or something?
