  1. I'm unable to demo so would like know if anyone has experience with either combos ? Thanks in advance.
  2. worked fine on my mac. the power output is notably better. i'm very pleased. lets see what further updates may bring...
  3. I add via the proxy setting, then for whatever reason the album skips all the way through not playing anything. I am fully up to date with my software.
  4. is it possible to use audirvana and airplay when using itunes > sending from ipad to an airport express, into a dac.
  5. If it was me i'd look to use a non-USB HDD given you're using a USB DAC.
  6. I would agree if you found there to be no objectively measured difference from my listening experience. I do confess to keeping my AQ Carbon as its well built and keeps any *thoughts* at bay.
  7. Enjoy Vegas Damien, I'm from the Uk and visit Vegas every year. Awesome place.
  8. Conversely, integer mode does not imply that async mode is working. I'm quoting Damien here. So how can it be a requirement?
  9. I own a AQ Carbon, how long does it take for these to be fully burned in? Mine's had about 30-50 hours use so far. When I first bought it I was unable to hear any differences compared with a stock cable from another DAC. I'm hoping that after its been fully burned in I might actually hear a difference for the better.
  10. Hi Given you've put £600 I presume you're from the UK (me too). Over the last four years I have owned four dacs that fall within your budget (but bought second hand on the pink fish forum); lavry da-10, benchmark DAC1 usb, MDAC and my present NuForce UDH-100. The Lavry and Benchmark are both pro audio products, I found that both of them whilst being very good, sounded quite clinical sounding, the Benchmark was also good but this is a DAC that's 10 years old now. The UDH is without doubt my favourite dac on my travels thus far. The M2tech Young dac offers slightly more resolution but it costs twice the price! The UDH-100 is a USB input only, but my view is unless you need more inputs why pay for them, it hosts a superb headphone amp as well as a very transparent pre amp put (RCA). I tried the pre out in my fathers high end system and we were both shocked at how well the UDH-100 performed. It stood up extremely well to his Young Dac and pre amp (combined cost circa £3700). For £529 ish the UDH-100 was a no brainer in my (and his) opinion. It offers extremely good value for money. If you give the guys a call at analogue seduction they may be able to let you borrow one. It works in async mode, works up to 24 / 192 and has a very nice detailed yet organic sound. I love it and wouldn't swap any of my previous dacs for it. Note that the others all cost more and were bought second hand, coincidently for about £600, although the MDAC was £450 second hand. I use a Mac so cant really advise on how to go in respect of the PC route, but it will work and i'd be surprised if you weren't happy with it. I don't have any experience with the wired4sound dacs, they do get good reviews. I have just read your last sentence about sonos, so you may require more than just a USB input, unless sonos can be integrated into the PC (I've not heard that it can) the UDH-100 might not be for you. My preference over sonos would be to buy apple airport expresses which I believe works out cheaper. I don't think you'd be disappointed by the MDAC, plus you'd save some cash which is always nice - yes you'd have to buy second hand but this is how i've always done it (with the exception of the UDH-100 as it was new on the market) with no regrets. Become a member on the pink fish forum, there's often plenty of good second hand dacs on there. there is also an incredible amount of trust of that forum as well. I've sent thousands of pounds to people i've never met and not once had a problem. One final consideration could be the NuForce HDP (£400) which hosts more inputs and whilst I haven't owned one, I am yet to read a negative review about one. Check amazon, there's plenty of praises on there. I have however known a few people to encounter problems with the MDAC, I didn't but some have. Good luck in your search. Do try and listen first before you buy.
  11. I wish I was in Kansas instead of the UK!. I think you're right regarding the cable, I got it at a very good price and temptation got the better of me. I won't be buying their Coffee or Diamond one anyway, that's for sure!
  12. I bought an Audioquest carbon usb cable a few weeks ago, what's the general consensus on burn in ? (should it apply). I am yet to hear a difference with this cable which is a little disappointing but i'm hoping the burn in theory, 1 - exists, 2 - will give me improved SQ for my money spent on it. Thanks in advance. PS. The new NuForce UDH-100 is the best product i've ever bought, no it's not the best but for the money I think it's incredible.
