  1. No special reason, the Intel NIC runs at 10Gbe so why not. I would run everything at 10Gbe if possible.
  2. This is my system that I have used for years now, at least the network portion. Mix of 1Gbe & 10Gbe as well as multi-mode & single-mode. Both Mikrotik switches are managed so you can see what the settings are.
  3. I suggest you might want to put the Rogue Audio DragoN amps (stereo & mono blocks) on your list. They use the Ncore modules but also have a tube (12AU7) per channel so you get a bit of a tube favored sound.
  4. Yes, you are correct, mine was a DAC8DSD. My apologies.
  5. If you are looking for a cable to upgrade DAC firmware, I made one a few years ago and was able to successfully do upgrade. PM me if you want to borrow my cable.
  6. I have my Rogue Audio DragoN stereo amp, which is based on Ncore modules, for sale. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650050319-rogue-audio-dragon-stereo-amp/ Reason for selling is upgrade to the mono block version.
  7. View Classified Rogue Audio DragoN Stereo Amplifier I purchased this Rogue Audio DragoN stereo amp in October 2021. The only reason for selling is that Rogue Audio came out with a mono block version of the DragoN about a year ago so I decided to upgrade and now enjoy. I pulled the new set of J&J tubes (12UA7) from the mono blocks and installed them in the stereo DragoN that I am selling, so fresh tubes are included in the sale. Also included are power cord, manual and packing material. If you are not familiar with this hybrid Class D (Hypex NCore modules) and tube amp, according to a TAS review in January 2021, "...DragoN is a hybrid tube/Class D design. However, the rogues at Rogue emphasize that it’s not “simply a tube circuit placed in front of a Class D output section.” They describe their proprietary “tubeD” circuit topology as one that integrates the tube section (a pair of 12AU7 tubes) into the amplifier’s output stage. Additionally, three massive linear power supplies built around large, high-performance toroidal transformers power the amplifier circuitry, and top-shelf parts mounted on a heavy (two-ounce) copper circuit board are used exclusively throughout." HQ Player

DirectSDM only works when you have a DSD input file and as you noted you have PCM input.
  10. Roon can run on the same server as HQP. For me, I found better SQ having them run on separate servers. The Roon server can be a small computer like an Intel NUC.

@Jud last week I installed Ubuntu Server (minimal) to replace Linux Mint on my fitlet2. Very simple and straightforward. The only confusing part during the install had to do with network address(??) that I simply just ignored and everything worked ok in that I was able to remote login using SSH ... there is an option during install to automatically include SSH server. With the minimal install, there was a dependency for NAA missing (libsound6??) that I had to install. The only other issue I had was having to use wget to download files and with Miska's file names being a mile long it took some doing not to mistype. For me, it is easier overall to boot my fitlet2 off a USB drive using HQP Embedded OS and then disabling hqplayerd: systemctl stop hqpalyerd systemctl disable hqplayerd I have a TV set close enough to connect (HDMI) whenever I need to a monitor, otherwise unplug the HDMI cable. Also have a keyboard connected in order to issue the systemctl commands. Whenever Miska does an embedded OS update, I use my Windows laptop to download the new version then write to the USB stick using BalenaEtcher. Very simple and straightforward.
  12. View Classified T+A DAC8 DSD Wonderful sounding DAC. I upgraded the firmware for the DAC and Amanero USB board so it now works flawlessly with Linux-based sources (native DSD512) over USB. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650023808-ta-dac8-dsd/ Only selling due to upgrade to a Holo May KTE DAC. HQ Player

There is no license (or cost) for the NAA software because it is of no use unless used with HQP Embedded or Desktop. I have a HQP Desktop license running on my Linux server but I use the HQP OS embedded version on my fitlet2 as a NAA only. I disable hqplayerd since it is not needed. You can find NAA specific software at https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/? if you want to go that route.

Went back to using HQP OS Embedded (w/ hqplayerd disabled) on fitlet2 like I have been for some time now and 1024 works just fine. So my sincere apologies for wasting your time yesterday. At least I learned a few things.

@Miska Finally got DSD1024 working. Thanks for your assistance. The final step was the firmware in the May KTE. I had to downgrade to firmware 3.12 (from 3.14). And after all of this, sound is stuttering every few seconds with ECv3.
