  1. If I could have a pair of Martin Logan's Purity that were Airplay enabled. That coupled with my iPad would make me a happy happy man.
  2. How can you have evidence about something that is subjective?
  3. this is complete and utter nonsense. an "undigital sounding and relaxing" USB cable.
  4. Swan D2.1SE are MUCH better than the Swans in my opinion. AND, I am pretty sure the Quads are more than $700
  5. well I am not sure if it is NOS vs OS or the tube pre-amp stage that is making the difference but I can say EASILY that I prefer the sound of the Peachtree Decco to the PS Audio DL III and the Bel Canto DAC 3 that I owned previously.
  6. I am confused here and might be FAR off but I'm going to ask anyway. If Audiophiles are in pursuit of recreating what was recorded exactly, note for note and bit for bit, and have it sound as close to the live experience as possible, then why use oversampling DACs? Isn't that altering what is on the disc much like an equalizer alters what was originally recorded?
  7. pardon me if this is a "dumb" question, but here goes I'm thinking of buying one of those refurb/old model close-out mac minis to use as my server. I know once things are set up I can use my iPhone as a remote, but how would I set everything up without a monitor? I read about that screen sharing option but how do you get into system preferences of the mac mini without a monitor? Also, what's a better option for the library? A USB drive attached to an Airport Extreme or those little mac-mini sized hard drives so I could use firewire? Guess I am looking for help and advice. Thanks in Advance.
  8. I might do a 500GB time capsule for time machine and a NAS for other stuff.
  9. I was concerned about that too. I figured the guy was just trying to make a sale and that is why he said it wold work. SO if my Mac sees it as a internet attached drive, doesn't mean I can automatically use it for time machine? I just want the best and easiest solution.
  10. I want to go to a NAS Solution and I am tossing around ideas. I want to be able to use it as a Time Machine Backup, Media Library and have a mirror for safety purposes. I would also love to be able to access my files from work or from wherever. The guy at Macsales this would do it for me. I guess I just need info/help. I have thought about Airport Extreme with a USB disk, Time Capsule and now this situation.
  11. I had been looking at the Decco for a long time, and by the time I was ready to make a purchase, I heard the Nova was about to come to market. Since the Nova has been oft delayed, I ordered a Decco and it was delivered today. All I can say is I am really impressed with all the things this unit does right. I am playing AIFF files on an Apple TV connected via glass toslink to the Decco and Swan D2.1SE monitors. Controlling it via the Remote App on my iPhone. I'm truly loving what I am hearing. I have never owned nor heard tubes, so I am not sure if it is the tube preamp stage or what that sounds so pleasing to me. I'm looking forward to trying out the Nova when it is finally available. I am planning on using the pre-out to a pair of Martin Logan Puritys, thus using the Nova as a Dac/Pre.
  12. not that I owe you ANY explanation, but I clicked a link to the right which was labeled "ACTIVE FORUM TOPICS" I did not nor do I ever TROLL topics.
  13. trolling? equipment forums? jitter = equipment? last I checked this was not an equipment forum. My advice to you would be to put down the camera and lay off the keyboard and work on reading comprehension skills.
  14. Chris, No worries, I take no issue with your comments, and any post that turns me on to a good recording of a vocalist that I enjoy can't be a bad one. I agree with the fact that most people are not audiophiles but at the same time, I find that a vast majority of the people who call themselves audiophiles are not audiophiles either, myself included. Sure we have some pricey equipment and sure we love the hobby, but for LOT OF PEOPLE, that's where it ends. As far as that 320 kbps vs redbook test, I wasn't speaking about the average joe, I was speaking about us "audiophiles" Not ALL but a lot would be fooled. Now let me go preorder a copy of that Billie Holiday CD and pray one becomes available in the near future. TK
  15. NOTHING is perfect, so the pursuit of perfection is futile. Enjoy the music. I have heard my favorite songs on expensive showroom systems and I have heard my favorite songs on an iPod. You know what I remember the most? The MUSIC. It has been proven time and time again that "most" people can NOT tell the difference between a 320 KBPS file and the CD. People have been fooled with coat hangers as speaker cabling. Let's get back to the music. The music should be the star here, NOT the equipment. Not to mention the fact that that so much music is poorly recorded these days and especially in the past. I am a HUGE Prince fan and as I was encoding his discography to AIFF, I realized these are very bad recordings. Led Zeppelin, Billie Holiday, etc. all my favorite stuff is poorly recorded, so do you think "jitter" is the real culprit here? A buddy of mine has gone from a truly expensive stereo system to an iPod and Audioengine A5 speakers. Guess what, my favorite songs sound good there too. I expect to be blasted by folks, especially by Audioengr but remember, he is trying to sell a product...... HIS product.
