  1. Hi folks A while back I started to assemble a CA system. The effort got put on the back burner but I want to move forward and I have some questions. First let me tell you what I have and where it is. In a bedroom/office I have a Windows 10 desktop, a Synology NAS with 3 4tb Hitachi NAS drives, a Nimbie USB 3.0 batch ripper, Comcast cable modem, and an Asus ac router. I have downloaded dBoweramplifier to the PC. The system is in the great room. Currently it consists of a, hopefuly soon to be gone CD player, a Lampizator Big 7 DAC with VC, a soon to be installed Sanders Magtech amp, and Andra II speakers. I want to get a microRendu bridge. Is there a device I can put in my GR so I can go wireless from my router to it and then Ethernet to the mR? I was originally planning to go with an Aries and put the recommended minimserver on the NAS. Is this still the right approach or is there another ap better? What other aps are recomended and which device should they be on? I would like to use an iPad to query music files. Am I missing anything? Mike
  2. John, thanks for clearing that up. I totally got that backwards.
  3. khollister, That sounds like good abvice on RAID and backup. I had not thought about the speed difference of a local drive vs a NAS. As far as ripping, I am not that concerned. With the Nimbie you stack a hundred CDs in it and let her rip, literally. The Nimbie SW is supossed be very good at accumulating meta data also. My wife recently retired so I can teach her to do it. I also had not considered that this approach was realtime in nature with potential network timing issues, and that NAS speeds could be an issue. Maybe I need to rethink this approach but I thought this topology was one that is frequently used with Aries. Mike
  4. Khollister Thanks for your comments. The PC will not be dedicated to ripping. It will be replacing an old POS Vista machine that is in the office now. I have 3000 or 4000 CDs and 200 or 300 SACDs which I hope to rip some day and Iwill be downloading DSD files. I will rethink the backup stategy. I am not RAID wizzard. I know the Aries requires an iPad I should have mentioned I will be buying one. The only orher source might be a BD plater. I was using an APL modded SACD 1000 until it crapped out year or so ago at which point I dusted off my Audio Alchemy DDS Pro and DTI Pro 32 and Sonic Frontiers SFD 2 MK II DAC. Mike
  5. Hi guys. And gals if there are any out there. I’ve been dangling around here for a few years trying to keep up with this CA stuff but never posted before that I remember. My wife has finally had it with piles of CDs all over the living room, office and back room. So I am ready to take the plunge. Wanted to run my plan by you to see what you think. I plan to have a general purpose Windows computer running dBpoweramp and Nimbie SW, NAS and Nimbie USB plus CD/DVD in the office. I have a Window 8.1 PC with a free upgrade to W10 arriving tomorrow. The computer and NAS will be wired to an ASUS RT-AC68U router. For a NAS I was thinking Synology 1515 or 1815 but I have read that they are kind of hard for the novice to set up. I have 3 4TB HGST Deskstar NAS drives for the NAS. Two would be in the NAS in a RAID configuration and 1 would be off site and be swapped out with one of the drives in the NAS every month or so. In the living room I plan to buy an Auralic Aries for wireless access to the NAS. For a DAC I am thinking a Lampizator 5 or 7, depending on what I can afford on the used market, with volume control. Give wireless communication between NAS and Aries is there a need for audiophile Ethernet cables between the PC and NAS and the router? Thinking about JCAT USB cable from Aries to amp (bel canto Evo 4 bridged to 2 channels). Speakers are Andra IIs. Mike
  6. I dowloaded the Lampizator user guide. It said a driver has to be downloaded for Windows but one is not required for Mac. Jesus is the new product you are working on a server? Mike
  7. Hi Folks I've been lurker here for a while but this is my first post. Nice place place btw. I plan to jump into the computer audio game in the near future. I am considering the Lampizator L4 USB DAC and the Sonore server. However I read that the Sonore may not be compatible with all USB dacs. Something do due with it being Linux based. Has anyone had any experience with the two? Thaks Mike
