  1. ''Rather it is AC>DC leakage currents--which run through all hi-fi systems as a result of there being more than one power supply present--causing subtle sonic differences due to the resultant spectrum and amplitude. '' I can agree with this analysis but do not exclude the issue of kickback into the mains. I have long disconnected smps s from the mains when I listen critically to gauge the SQ of a good system. Equally I habitually power analog and digital equipment thru separate transformer isolation mains spurs, sometimes with 2 regenerators, one for each. The curious thing remains that, altering the frequency of the a regenerator such as the PS audio P300 can alter substantially the bass and hf qualities of a dac. PS: I use balanced passive attenuators to try to remove preamp colouration. One of these has constant impedance of 10k.
  2. This combination works very well and gets rid of the slightly dry and elevated hf character of the Purifier 2. Try it and save, although I have the iUSB3 as well. One continual use of the iUSB2 is to drill the panel and install a 5.5mm power socket for powering 5V boxes, the usb 5V socket being quite loose and therefore unreliable. This is a very good power supply.
  3. Don't know why. It started off working in two Startech enclosures but stopped and works may be 10% of time. It may be transient power demand? But I am fed up with not having high quality, reliable esata enclosures. The cables one can buy are suspect too. Some way too rigid and others with poor connectors. Sums up computer qaulity accessories.
  4. When you add all the bits together, the Hydra isn't really that expensive. However, the Hydra is still sensitive to the Regen and different cables. One can never win 100%
  5. ''All good advice ! My 850 is securely bolted to an aluminium cradle using compressed rubber grommets. The DIY PCB has 2 separate low noise (around 4uV) +5V outputs which also powers a Samsung 840 . Using a cheap 40uV low noise adjustable voltage regulator from ebay will also result in an audible improvement when powered from the internal +12V SMPS. http://imageshack.com/a/img540/1083/2KKAI5.jpg '' Some large ssds don't like certain power supplies. My 1TB drives on a esata connection don't like my 2A Jung Type supply and refuse to cooperate with the OS. However, they are fine with other 1A PSs and even 5V usb power.
  6. I favour SLC/MLC SSDs over tinny or TLC designs. Power the Samsung with a good 5V and damp it by putting a weight on it to try and you may hear a difference. Also try powering your OS and music SSD/HD independently and separately from the computer's bus.
  7. Wave Pcm Upconvert Player / DSD to PCM Converter This seems a good upsampler/player with loads of features to explore. However, there are a couple of Japanese PopUps that I cannot decode. Can anyone pl decipher? Sorry I posted in the wrong place and has not worked out how to submit as a new topic. Can someone also help?
  8. I am trying to register this with IE11 and have failed. The site wants me to use another browser, which I don't want to install. Any advice? Is there another way?
  9. Sata 2 drives tend not to support trim and run a lot hotter. I have several STECs and other SLC drives
  10. I have Crucial M550 and Transcend 370S !G as well as a range of lower capacity SSDs such as Sandisk Extreme Pro. Do not pay any attention to computer based tests of ssd that quote scores of test runs. In my opinion (with experience), ssds are microphonic ie, SQ can change somewhat with case damping. The tinniest models and the most supported here are the Samsungs, but I do not see any better real live performance from the Pro model as compared to say, the Sandisk Ultra Plus units, which in turn are as good as the Extreme Pro if you are not looking for the ultimate speed. The Transcend 370S is tremendous value for money and it is the only one I have in which the control software suite works 100%. Intels and Extreme Pros are sturdier but the 370S is good in comparison with other 'budget' ssds. Look for even read write speeds (10% better doesn't matter); MLC and not TLC and no compression in the controller operating mode.
  11. This is the problem with buying remote. I don't buy US stuff unless there is local dealer support and unless attitudes are supportive. Full marks to a small number of manufacturers who have common sense.
  12. and costs little. Zotac C1320 with 64 bit Bing powered by a linear regulated 19.5V supply and utilising eSata for the music drive is very good.
  13. They are somewhat microphonic. Place a weight on a tinny one and SQ changes. I find Samsungs lightweight and tinny, plus they are TLC. I prefer the last generation Sandisk and Crucial, with added 2mm acrylic plate on top of the 9mm adaptor. The new Transcends and ADatas are also fine. The only fully working software suite is provided by Transcend only. The Samsung Magician is quirky. Powering the Boot and Music drives separately is very important.
