  1. innertube, you know that old saying, i know enough to know how much i don't know? that's me with computer audio. freshman on the first day of school. but is it fun!! thanks for the help. after i bite the bullet i will post what i think about the sound. honestly it would not take much to be better than headphone through this macbook. whatever i buy, i will be running out the forte amp to ascend speakers that came out of the living room. what do you use with your computer? louie
  2. hey innertuber, thanks for the reply, but, i think you are getting me confused with someone else. i don't use eac and didn't know what it was until i googled it. the potentiometer thing is something i learned from the guys/gals over at audioasylum. if you wire up a volume control by itself with a knob on the front to control volume; two outputs on the back; right channel, left channel; you can potentially have a "pure" preamp between your source "ie" cd player or itunes and the power amp. this is what would go between "itunes volume set at max" and my forte power amp. it worked great back in the day when i did not have an active preamp between my cd player and power amp; so i thought what if......... i think it will depend on the voltage output of the macbook and/or impedance? maybe chris can weigh in? thanks guys i love this website. louie
  3. thank you very much innertuber! did you get my email response? if you did, will the passive volume be better? i also have a hsu research sub that came out of the living room that could possibly be used. i've also been reading in the forum about airport express? could i forget about the devil wire and do that? i'm looking for best sound on a budget. thanks for help in advance. louie
  4. when you say "old" white macbook, how old? i bought mine new this past year and it is white.
  5. chris, i just scanned the weiss minerva review and caught your reluctance to buy "munster" product. i know what you mean. with your "pull" maybe you can suggest to one of the smaller manufacturers to make that 6 pin to 6 pin. the one i have in mind has had "experience?" dealing with "munster" hehe hehe
  6. thanks for the welcome chris and can i say? awesome website! i found it googling for best computer audio. like i said i have been a long time audio asylum lurker, and those guys/gals definitely know their stuff. but at this time in my education most is beyond me and even down the road "maybe". as i told innertuber in an email reply; i had not thought of the macbook vol. control being a hindrance but maybe it is a voltage output issue? as i asked him would a passive blue "alps" potentiometer be better? i used to use it with the forte between a cd player. i am pinching pennies right now as my sony es av receiver died and i have moved my "big rig" van alstine electronics and naim speakers to the living room with the wifes blessing. so far i haven't really missed surround sound and it may stay there. but i really miss having great computer sound. again, great site, i look forward to exploring the rest of it but last night the devilsound dac caught my eye with the picture first and then i read your review and thought, what if?? thanks again. louie
  7. i am a long time audio asylum lurker and have just found this site this evening. after reading many of the digital pc audio forum topics on their site this is really more my liking. i bought a macbook this year and want better sound than these headphones. i would like to know if i could use the devilsound dac with a forte power amplifier and use the macbook as the volume control? thanks in advance for replies.
