  1. I have had all three and like the Wavelength the best, JKSPDIF Mk3 second, and AP2 a distant last. AP had a fatiguing hardness in the upper mids/lower treble for me and also slightly compressed imaging of individual instruments. I found the Mk3 to be considerably more natural and smooth sounding with just as much detail and a bigger sound, more 3D imaging with more air. The Wavelink is more detailed than both with really good transparency but in a natural way, and more precise than the Mk3. BUT for me the Weiss INT203 (same as INT202 but with SPDIF in/out instead of 2x out) takes the cake. It is on the level of the Wavelink in terms of detail and precision, but less emphasis on the leading edge and easier on the ears yet still very dynamic and exciting - a very open, clean sound without being etched or soft. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to hear the Off-Ramp or Berkeley, but I am very happy with the Weiss and don't feel the urge to spend any more.
  2. This is normal. I've had both Series 1 and 2 and they both run pretty damn hot. I find it strange for a DAC, but whatever, it sounds great! I must admit, the heat coupled with the fact that you can't power it off has me worried about wear and tear just a bit, but if it were to cause failure it would be many years down the road, and parts can be replaced. Wouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks for service, and the occasional service cost is something I've come to expect with the territory in this hobby.
  3. Hi, long time lurker, first time poster here. I have recently upgraded from Berkeley Alpha DAC Series 1 to Series 2 and have posted some impressions here: AudiogoN Forums: Review: Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Series 2 DA converter Regards, Eugene
