  1. I have a MacBook Pro with an iomega external hard drive. this is connected to my principal music system and its working well. all of my music is stored in ALAC on that hard drive. i am considering a system in another part of the house. If i use a mac mini connected to a DAC there - what is the optimal networking set up? if that mac mini is networked wirelessly to the MacBook Pro - it would seem suboptimal since the music has to "travel" from the external hard drive thru the mac book pro, over the airwaves to the mac mini. perhaps this doesnt really matter. real time wireless streaming? an ethernet connection would require a lot of cabling between these two parts of the house. should i consider attaching an external drive to the mac mini and then duplicating all the music from the first system? i am not really sure how this works. any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated.
  2. I like the external hard drive approach - but be careful with the operating system compatibility. I have a macbook pro (snowleopard) and all of my iTunes music is stored in ALAC on a standalone external hard drive by iomega. HTis is connected to my principal audio system and works great. I had trouble with the external hard drive and the LION operating system, so i had to sue my older laptop with SNOWLEOPARD. so be careful with that issue. perhaps its been resolved now. I am interested in setting up another system in another part of the house. if i use a mac mini and connect that to a DAC - then network (wirelessly) the mac mini to the MacBook Pro in my other room - thats connected to a external hard drive - does that work? (intuitively it seems like that music has to travel from external drive to macbook pro, then over the airwaves to the mac mini - that can't be good?) or should i have an external drive connected to the mac mini and just replicate all the music in the First hard drive? but then i have to do that repeatedly every time i rip a new disc. i am a bit confused on the best way to handle this. ethernet may be an option but it would be a complex cabling job in my house...
