I know this isn't really where the conversation was headed but I feel that music quality is definitely declining and its been this way for a while. I think it's due largely to the lack of imagination. I would venture to guess that 90% of every song that has any notable commercial success utilizes one of three chord sequences. It's so boring.

I think for "room sound" you're going to want open back so that the sound reverberates with a sense of openness. I might suggest extending a little higher than the $100 pricepoint. The following link includes a few suggestions. Compare These items

Have you considered the SPL Phonitor or Auditor? I love it with my K701! Here's a link where you can compare all 3 models: Compare These items I have the Auditor. It only comes in black. I really wish it came in the silver color. Either way, I highly recommend it with the 701. It's one of the best pairings in my set up.
