  1. The guys at Pure Music told me to use Apple Lossless for everything... interesting.
  2. I am currently using a Drobo as a music and video data server across my Mac network via the Firewire port through an iMac (a Mac Mini is the actual media server). I had to get the Drobo out of the listening room because of the noise of the drives (and the Drobo fan); and the idea of the Droboshare using USB to connect across the network just seems silly to me (and to many of the techs at Drobo who thought that video just wouldn't fly).<br /> But you have to wonder, Chris. The folks at Drobo have a fabulous product on their hands, they keep adding different methods of connectivity; and yet they cannot seem to find it in their power to put a simple NIC connection into the back of one of their drives...... I don't get it.<br />
  3. Great article, Chris. We should all be so thorough....<br /> <br /> How do you feel about using a virtual copy of Windows on a Mac (VMWare) for ripping; and do you think that an external, dedicated CD/DVD drive might be less error prone than any of the internal Mac drives?<br /> <br /> Bob
  4. Gordon:<br /> <br /> Taken from the page on the EMU unit - http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=15185<br /> <br /> "* Macintosh analog operation up to 96kHz and digital operation up to 48kHz only at this time."<br /> <br /> Bob Liss
  5. Chris:<br /> <br /> I've been talking with Steve Nugent at Empirical, and we have a question: Will a Mac Mini (or any Mac) support 24/192 output through the built in optical port or even USB?<br /> If so, my solution for a server would be a Mini with either of Steve's interfaces to my MBL DAC... otherwise I probably need to go with a box that supports a Lynx card....<br /> <br /> Thanks,<br /> Bob Liss
  6. Besides the C-Nuts, try Al Lee or, if you like jazz piano, any of the Larry Willis discs. But if you want to test your system, turn up The Arc Choir all the way and see what happens!
  7. Great point regarding the Mapleshade cuts. I own most of their catalog, and absolutely love most of the stuff (and use them as reference discs for auditioning components). Want to have some fun? Play the C-Nuts all night long!!!
  8. That's what I am doing. I get the main program screen; but when I point to the ".iso files on the dvd nothing happens after they are selected......
  9. The only "Help" available from the menu is an "About" for the version of the software - unless, of course, i am missing something...
  10. Thanks for the tip, Chris. I finally found a recent version (2008.04.16), downloaded it, and tried to run it in a VM window in OSX; but it seems to be command line oriented and I cannot find a help system. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but seem to have run into a wall here. Sorry to bother you, but I need some additional info on how to run this software, or a place to go to find out please. Thanks, Bob
  11. Does anyone know of a way to rip DVD-a music into iTunes? I am most specifically interested in copying the Classic HDAD releases from either the 24/96 or 24/192.....
