Thanks for recommending this. Very interesting reading. I've met Jason and Mike twice at T.H.E. Show in Newport Beach. Both of them are down to earth guys and easy to approach, very open.

TEAC UD-501: Dual Mono DAC with DSD Streaming
WLVCA replied to valenroy's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Interesting. Was a little lost reading the review. Could be my lack of proficiency in the technical details, the Google transaltion to English----or both. -
I use 320 kbps MP3's on my Samsung Galaxy 3 - couple hundred albums on a 32 GB removeable micro sd card. I rip CD's to the hard drive in my car as well and it rips to MP3 - not certain of the bit rate. Neither the phone nor the car qualify as "audiophile" systems. Generally don't listen to MP3's on my main system but do sometimes listen to MOG and Spotify to explore new music. Depends on the situation - MP3's have their place.

TEAC UD-501: Dual Mono DAC with DSD Streaming
WLVCA replied to valenroy's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
The UD-501 has been out of stock at a number of vendors in the USA as well. Music Direct, Amazon and J&R are all out of stock. I've been debating getting this DAC or perhaps the Matrix X-Sabre. John Gunderson (Project86) published an interesting review on Head-Fi.org today for the X-Sabre. Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread Keep wondering if its too soon to jump into DSD or if it woud be better to wait a while. -
Lightweightish Balanced Headphones recommendation
WLVCA replied to Wolf Bronski's topic in Headphones & Speakers
Most of the planar magnetic headphones are pretty heavy - LCD2 and 3 for example. I have the Hifiman HE-500 and they are heavy, too. The HE500 can be converted to balanced with a cable swap, no soldering required as can the LCD2. Some of the balanced cables are very costly - here's an example of an LCD2 cable for $679! Moon and ALO tend to have some VERY high cable prices, too. CablePro Reverie Audez'e LCD-2 Balanced Cable I also have a pair of AKG K701 that were converted to balanced and they had to be recabled but I bought them that way. I don't want to start a cable debate but..... -
Emotiva's XDA-2 is due out soon. Is there a difference in sound quality between the XDA-1 and XDA-2? DAC chip will be the same I've read but I do understand that implementation means as much or more than the chip.

I had the same issue at first and found a way to fix it. Go to Tools Select Options Select File Types Select DSD Audio Change File Association to Yes That should do it, worked for me. Confirm by going to Audio, then Files and DSD files should be there when you select dff or dsf, etc.

PC or MAC for storage or streaming

You may want to listen to the NAD M51 DAC/Preamp - requires a separate amp, of course. I also recommend J River. I use it and like it very much.- 32 replies

I heard the Peachtree Grand with Dynaudio Confidence C1 speakers the THE Show in Newport recently. The Grand is a good concept but I was not impressed with the sound - with or without the tube in the signal path. Could have been the room - shows are not the best listening environment. I believe the amp section is digital, too. if I am not mistaken.- 32 replies

Very funny - the days of tabulating cards. Did you prefer the sound from 80 column cards or 96 column cards?- 32 replies

Burson Audio HA-160D Headphones Amp & DAC unboxing video
WLVCA replied to HiFiInsider's topic in Headphones & Speakers
I have the Burson HA160 standalone headphone amp. Drives the Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K702 beautifully. The Hifiman HE-500 sounds great on the HA160. The Burson doesn't have enough oomph for the HE-6. When I owned the T1 I used a Mapletree Super II tube amp with good results. Preferred the T1 with the Mapletree. -
With apologies in advance to Apple lovers, the appropriate comparison on the audio side is Bose or perhaps Monster....overpriced, marketed well and purchased (in the main) as a fashion statement. No offense intended. ; - )

One simple solution would be to use a balanced to single ended cable to connect your devices. I am doing exactly that in my headphone rig - DacMagic Plus balanced out to single ended in on my headphone amp. I have the K702 headphones and drive then with a Burson HA160 amp with excellent results.
