  1. Can an AMP/DAC be used with SONY:Xperia Z TABLET? Hello everyone, I thought as this is probably the Best Pc Audio forum out there, their was a very good chance that some fellow members would know lots about playing music files on Tablets e.t.c.? I have many high quality 24/96 music files and for a time i used variouse Amp/Dacs on my old DELL Studio laptopI have tried to find out if/how this would work with a TABLET and specifically the SONY Xperia Z Tablet? Now if I have understood correctly It is possible to use an external Amp with Android tablets but not a DAC owing to something to do with the Android kernal If anyone as any up to date feedback on the DAC/AMP Question I would be very interested to hear,I am no expert in these things, quite the opposite in fact. Any help very much appreciated Regards Steve
  2. Hello Hi-Fi Tubes, Good to hear from you,but afraid all that went above my head, but i`m sure other more technically minded members may benefit from your comments Cheers Steve
  3. Hello Everyone, It as being a long time since I last posted. I wanted to see if their were any new developments re the DAC/AMP use with TABLET`s? I just re-read a thread on the forum from 2012,which was very informative and interesting! I have being waiting to choose my TABLET so I could buy one than supported AMP/DAC?If any one as any updates or advice I would be very interested to hear, most of my music files are 24/96 Many Thanks In Advance Regards Steve
  4. Hello Everyone; Have being meaning to post a thread about the Halide Design DAC for a while now.I have read quite a bit already on here and elsewhere..just need some first hand feedback on the combo I intend?or maybe there are some close alternatives (price wise?) Would be really intersted to hear from folk who actually use one and in what combination? I am looking to buy either a Tablet or Ultrabook? Most of my music is kept as 24/96 Files.I currently run a Dell Studio 32 Bit Laptop-win8 I am hoping very much to put together a good all round audio set up was thinking of returning to the AUDIOENGINE A5+s (had the originals and sold them + moderate upgrades in cabling where nessercary? This time around was thinking I really need a SUBWOOFER Audioengine make one so it would be easy to buy this,But I wish to make sure there are no other better alternatives? Any Suggestions or alternative options, always appreciated Many Thanks In Advance Regards Steve
  5. Hello wgscott Graet to hear from you,I take your point re the fubar but I had also tried the a5s on very good wooden stands.and with other dacs e.t.c. and whilst the a5s were good they were not great.. that is what made me think of going down the passive route with amp and speakers as originally outlined. Interesting you should mension the Dragon Fly read hundreds of positive comments on this item also the Halidedesign DAC.excuse my ignorance but what is a Velodyne microvee? My own room is only 2 x 3 mtrs but I would move it into lounge which is bigger as long as I can keep it compact and make the music more spaciouse & open with good bass (not over the top) I will be happy(always felt the A5s were a bit strangled) no doubt my own mistakes..but I would nedd a good argument to go back to AE or any near field monitors please keep the advcie coming many thanks Steve
  6. Hello Everyone, It as been quite some time since I was able to last visit the site, let alone post.Illness is getting the better of me these days but I still dream of quality PC Audio!& Really would value any help/advice relating to the following:- Some time back now I owned the current Dell studio (2008) laptop,I partnered it with a pair of of Audio-Engine A5s (bamboo) through Firestone Fubar Dac & PS,custom made cables e.t.c.??? cost a fortune and end product was dissapoininting to say the least, just not worth the time effort and silly cost, learnt a very hard & costly lesson.(Ihope) Now I am about to invest in a Intel 5 processor Ultrabook or similar? which will be my music server most of my files are 24/96.Now the problem with the Old A5s was lack of bass! and by then I did not fancy investing in a bass box? I see there is a mark 2 version of the A5s called + with remote?but I am wondering is there a better way maybe somehow finding a compact amp/dac able to feed a pair of the well reviewed and not to expensive Q Acoustics 2000 Series 2020 Bookshelf Speakers?? I did not really wish to go down the full blown Hi-Fi Route for a few reasons but if there is a compact Passive set up that would set my toes a tapping(Electric Blues) then I would be a happy man must be quite compact if at all possible again good reasons for this. so there you have it my friends I hope some of you will reply I thank you all very much in advance regards Steve
  7. Hello Everyone, Basically a simple question which as only just really come to my attention? but is there a best method of carrying your music collection around? Reason I ask is my family are buying me a Tablet PC posssibly the MS Surface or Asus infinity or who knows one of the selection which are suppposed to be coming on to the market. Anyway as it stands all my music is split between an external hard drive 2 x Cloud storage sites, and some on a micro SDHC card. Things do seem to be moving on by the week and I just wondered if there is any particular Cards out there which are better than others for storing music files? most of my music is 24/96. I am sort of thinking well if I do get a tablet(limited hard drive space)? dont wish to fill up with music or Movies come to that,so thought I could put what I need/like, on to said cards? as I understand It most of these tablets have a max size of 32 GB cards, there maybe others that can take larger cards even the newer sdxc Cards? anyway just thought I would ask. I do have a thread starter on Computer music to.I am intending to use the Tablet as my music server as far as it goes? but buying a V-dac and othe V range items with trimmings & headphones to listen, likewise i will be buying headset for Bluetooth calls & wi-fi Skype if I can sort it all out. many thanks Steve
  8. Good day Fellow Members, I could not recall if I used to be a member? anyway I am as I found out whilst trying to register??Afraid I have being very ill,and my old memory box is failing fast! One thing I have never forgot is my deep desire to have quality audio, although I have had to change a lot of paramaters due to my condition, and probability that i could end up in a medical fascility/Hospital/Home or some such.so I am looking to put together a solid system that would if at all possible integrate with new Tabelt PC Wife`s family buying me. Could be a MS SURFACE PRO (out in 3 months?) or it could be one of the ASUS Transformers, with Key-Pad;or I understand there are a whole host of similar Tablets due for release,so will pick the best 10"/11" nearer the time but before Christmas if possible? Ideally? I would love to try and integrate both Bluetooth & Wi-Fi if only to communicate via tablet over SKYPE but also normal Mobile phoning & Texting (BT) I would like very much to keep the set up quite compact so starting with which ever tablet?---> I like the reviews and feedback of the V-dac range so maybe we can start there including best interconnecting cables---> and possible V-PSU (althoughI read of other PSU`s which could be even better)? I know Nu-Force & Ibasso are well thought of also. Okay I know there are lots of other options out there and so if other set ups are felt more appropriate(better overhaul sound wise) then I am more than willing to add to short list) only thing is ther is no way for me to audition so will have to go with the majority or top class advice from one of the many experts who frequent this forum. Whilst the family are buying the Tablet,(I did think of of netbook or replacing my dell studio 32 bit) for another laptop?? The I thought no! a Tablet may just do the job but again if anyone sees problems with this please let me know.I really am all enthusiasm but little real knowledge how things interact together! Compactness is my aim, together with components that work well together. at this stage headphones will be my only listening meduim? and whilst I certainly do not mind buying the the V-Can or similar a pair of over the ear type phones are preferable,to full size something like the Sennheiser OMX 680i Earphones or again something similar (better maybe) these could change before purchase to noise cancelling on the ear type phones so a couple of non Grado suggestions appreciated(i found Grados very uncomfortable) sold them very fast that was some years back now.Must offer comfort Of course correct inexpensive cabling/Connectors would be good, I have being down the placebo route of shelling out 1000s of £$€ Custom built cables, esoteric USB Cables...can not afford to go down that route again.Budget is flexible but no exact figure as yet? ** Dum question Time, could I use both skype & blue tooth on same tablet??even through same headphones/Ear piece if such excists? I am sort of planning one last great trip/journey (sounds dramatic i know) and tablet will come with me mainly to stay in touch with wife,so is it skype or bluetooth? Music will have to take second best unless I can buy something which I could connect to tablet for journey either (just the journey) or incooperate in system as outlined above? I know all this is a mighty conundrum, that is why I humbly ask for your patience,it is so important for me to get this right,I can`t tell you! Your help,advice/guidance so very much valued but please can I ask you to keep the replies simple as my head freezes up..I sound like a total wreck! all the very best Steve
  9. Hello John many thanks indeed for your reply in the spirit I had intended this debate to go...it is very intersting to a novice like me to hear from other folk why they prefer one thing over another and thats the only reason i started this thread..as I said I am playing a kind of devils advocate really...I had difficulty seeeing in my particular situation why I would need or want a Squeezebox....thats all best wishes Steve
  10. Morning Mayhem Similar reply I gave to Paul why should it be at all strange to ask a specific set of questions on one subject remebering the other threads of mine do not really involve musicstreamers and are more DAC orientated Sure that is where they were first suggested to me..but I really did not wish to have all these different strands running to oblivion in one thread so thought (wrongl) according to some, that I would ask specific questions on certain component parts Like the one here specifically relating to musicstreamers...I have said I do not think I need one,but I am interested to learn why others really like them..and see if there was something I was really missing... My music room is a comprimise and I will do the best I can with what I have and what I eventually buy hope all that makes some kind of sense cheers steve
  11. Hi Paul Good to hear from you ,,but you seem to have totally missed the point! if you don`t mind me saying I really would prefer, not to have a musicstreamer..but as so many folk keep saying they are great, they can do this ,that and the other I thought I would throw the question out to gain wider feedback on the subject, nothing more nothing less. So there is nothing odd or weird in asking for folks opinions on why they like the boxes... why for gods sake all the best Steve
  12. Hi Again wgscott I am so pleased like me you feel I do not really need one of these sqeezeboxes..mind you I am getting folk telling me the sound quality is better with them? which I do not understand really. I maybe can see the advantages for some people but personally I do not need the features these boxes are supposed to offer..but each to there own. all the best Steve
  13. Hello Firedog Firstly many thanks for your reply and great explination of the SBT advantages e.t.c. The above quote from your text answers what I was thinking, but could not be totally sure as I am really am amature when it comes to all this. I certainly do not need multi room use well it might have done in normal circumstances, but I will have the laptop in the music room at all times as at one end I will be playing and recording (Q3ZOOM) latin percussion instruments which offers me the flexibility to listen to playback, and also watch my technique and learning progress on the Congas & Timbales.viua laptop or tv... The audio set up itself will be at the other end of the room, once I can match all the components correctly..I am in no hurry as I am waiting for the room to be finished I was also thinking of GIK but shipping and norways import tax makes it to expensive, all the best Steve
  14. High wgscott Good of you to reply but must admit not sure what you are trying to tell me? I am really trying not to stream anything that`s the point of my questions or have I missed something cheers steve
