44.100Hz*64=2.822.400Hz 44.100Hz*128=5.644.800Hz 44.100Hz*256=11.289.600Hz 44.100Hz*512=22.579.200Hz 44.100Hz*1024=45.158.400Hz 44.100Hz is CD sampling frequency. DSD1024 means 1024 times the CD sampling frequency. CD is 16 bit, DSD is 1 bit Eg. CD is 2 channels * 16 bits *44.100 Hz = 1.411.200 bps Spectrogram might refer to the bandwidth (22kHz) of original signal rather than sampling freq.
  2. For me, it was one of the show's most remarkable demos. It was very impressive that the sound filled the entire room. I spent a lot of time there. I've attached some footage from my iphone. IMG_2039.MOVIMG_2037.MOV
  3. I use MC28 with PlayPoint (i.e., not S88), but the following should work: DLNA configuration is accessed as below, and not from Options > Audio. Options > Media Network > Add or configure DLNA servers Select the relevant DLNA server (DLNA Server should be associated with S88 *) Audio > Mode: Original (i.e., not "specified format", so both PCM and DSF should go without conversion) (only if you want to convert or upsample everything to DSD than you can specify a format and configure Advanced > DSP Studio...) (*) this association should be right clicking S88 on the right hand side menu (I'm guessing since I'm not at home near my configuration now)
  4. Please visit https://roonlabs.com/partners/exasound and you'll see a product called s88. I am completely speculating; "s" may be a streamer and "88" may be a future generation 8-ch DAC in one package. The question still remains if the internal connection is via USB or something else and whether the analog outputs are XLR. I guess Roon is listing some future exaSound products before they appear on manufacturer's web pages. PS. I wonder how e38 and NAD m28 (purifi based 7-ch power-amp) combination would work - has anyone tried?
  5. That's exciting news. Thanks. Do you mean, 4 DAC chip output channels are connected for stereo use and discrete when 8-ch use? And how to switch between those modes?
  6. I think when you parallel the DAC channels, the output sound tend to have more weight. May be this is something to do with the current output capability and output impedance. I do own e22 and e28. For stereo playback the sound difference between and e22 and e28 is quite remarkable in favour of e22. e28 uses one DAC channel per output channel, e22 uses 4 parallel channels per output channel. I guess a dual mono design (like PlayPoint DM) i.e., 8 DAC channels per output channel should make things much better. I didn't have chance to listen to a PP DM. Assuming my thinking is true, what if a DAC can use discrete channels for multichannel playback, and switch to 2x4 for stereo playback (i.e., connect 4 channels parallel for L and R) to provide a better sound? (assumption: DAC chip has 8 channels) e28 does a great job for mch playback. I guess e38 much better. I wonder if (for stereo playback) 4 channels could be connected in parallel for L (and same for R) to achieve better stereo sound (PCM and DSD). If my thinking is right, than a 3 DAC chip design where L and R is driven in Dual Mono (2 DAC chips) and surround channels driven by another DAC would be great. Great stereo and multichannel sound from a single DAC unit!
  7. Do you parallel 4 channels for stereo playback? How do you do it at the input and at the output?
  8. Many thanks to all of the contributors of this subject. My SACDs and Oppo103D found new life. I am happy to backup a rare SACD such as "The Steve Davis Project - Quality of Silence (dmp)". I use exaSound e28 for multichannel playback. I use exaSound Playpoint and/or a WS2012 AO pc for playback - together or interchageably. Since I have a relatively large library, I prefered to use Jriver for music control - even driving the PlayPoint (rather than Mpod or other methods) As for ripping strategy, initially I wasn't sure whether to output a compact ISO file containing both stereo and multichannel or DSF for each track. But I think DSF is the right way to go with PlayPoint. At the expense of larger files resulting from DST to DSF conversion. Please correct me if I'm wrong thinking DLNA/UPNP does not support ISO playback but individual DSF tracks. I preferred to use the command promt for sacd_extract.exe: sacd_extract -2 -s -c -i <myIPaddress>:2002 -P and sacd_extract -m -s -c -i <myIPaddress>:2002 -P Using the command line parameters "2" (stereo output) and "m" (mch) together in a single command causes multichannel files to be written over the stereo files (or vice versa). So I learned first to rip stereo tracks, and rename that directory, and than rip mch tracks. my 2 cents :-) I could read only 2/3 of the threads here, sorry in case of any duplication.
  9. I see relativelty large heatsinks on the MC-2800 chassis. I know that the CPU can become quite hot when playing DSD files or multichannel. I wonder if 3 heatpipes can dissipate the heat in this case?
  10. Can I assume ripped SACD ISO and ripped DVD-A ISO formats are not supported? What about cue files?
  11. I wonder how e28-PP-UPnP-NAS compares to e28-CAPS-Ethernet-FileServer from sound quality point of view. I assume PP is a much cleaner hardware (noise, EMI/RFI etc) than a PC... But, does UPnP or DLNA protocol overhead effect sound quality compared to a music file read from a music server (or a NAS+JBOD)?
  12. HDplex has a 100W linear power supply with discrete 19/9/12/5V outputs. This may be an option. But there is no detail about your external disk; does it have an external switching psu or just a wall plug and internal psu; where to connect external power leads...etc. Some DIY work may be required.
