Further to my post above, even if a wired AEX can theoretically output hi res files, how do you send a hi res stream to one if the sending program downsamples first? (eg. iTunes). Maybe Air UPNP? So many questions

Hello all. These posts have got me thinking. I have been using 2 AEX (2nd gen) for streaming, but recently abandoned one in preference for a networked laptop with USB DAC so I can play up to 24/96. Now the question I have never seen asked about the AEX - if an Airport Express is connected via Ethernet to stream music (and not wirelessly) can it output above 16/44? I guess it depends on where the downsampling occurs when using the AEX - prior to the signal being sent to the AEX or by the AEX itself after it receives the 'music'. If someone could test the output of a 'wired' AEX I would be very pleased (don't have the equipment myself). Thanks in anticipation! Bob.
