  1. The ATCs like a lot up them! I'd be looking at the big boys from Musical Fidelity, Arcam, Krell, Bryston et al
  2. More snake oil Sir?! It's balls if you ask me, just plug them in and play music... Simples!
  3. Headphones, or speakers?! You mention speakers initially, then headphones?! Have a look at my thread a bit further down: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f12-headphones-and-speakers/options-speakers-near-field-desktop-system-small-home-office-layout-28940/ You can see I've gone with the JBL LSR305s and I'm very VERY impressed with them; they hold their own against the £4k UK Sterling Cyrus & KEF system I have in my living room!!!
  4. Just gone through this; some great vids. Here are some of my faves: [video=youtube;-X3hdFWmerQ]
  5. The A7Xs are superb speakers, glad you're liking them! What's your source (how are they connected etc)? A good pre-amp/DAC could be a good idea for their overall control, something like the Emotiva XDA1 or Cambridge Audio DACMagic etc... I use a PreSonus AudioBox iOne to go between the JBLs I have (using balanced TRS 1/4 cables) and my Mac Mini and it does a superb job with no limiting/colouration of the sound etc... I use iTunes with BitPerfect on the Mac as well... I've bought a CA DACMagic myself, waiting for it to be delivered, to see if that makes any difference. Would have liked the Emotiva DAC, but none are available here in the UK anymore
  6. Never came across that! Had them for a 2 weeks trial and I slammed the hell out of them haha... Could it have been the way you had them set up; any corner/room issues etc?!
  7. I've just moved from an audiophile separates system to an active speakers system for my home-office desktop system and I'm very much loving the fantastic sound and simplicity and for not a lot of monetary layout either! All my music is via my 2012 Mac Mini and iTunes/internet radio Previously I've had: Cyrus 6DAC with KEF LS50 speakers - superb sound, but the amp wasn't the best to run the LS50s Cyrus 8DAC with LS50s - superb system and a much more noticeable change of sound moving from the lower powered 6DAC! KEF X300As - fantastic audiophile active speakers; regretted selling these, but got the itch! NAD D3020 with Monitor Audio Silver 1s - brilliant system, but soon got bored NAD C352 integrated with Monitor Audio RX2s - massive amp, massive speakers and a massive sound, but too much for the desktop (even though it's a big desk)! I'm now set with a pair of JBL LSR305s being fed by my Mac Mini via a PreSonus AudioBox iOne as the interface (USB powered and fed; 1/4 cables to the speakers) and IMO, it's probably the best set-up for the desktop I've had! The Cyrus 8DAC and LS50 system is now in the living room (with an additional PSX-R for the 8DAC and Partington mass-loaded stands for the LS50s, fed via Airplay from the Mac Mini>Apple TV3>optical out into the 8DAC>LS50s) I demo'd quite a few speakers last week; that thread is further down the page, worth reading I'd say I didn't want to fork out a lot for this system as we're currently doing a lot of decorating upstairs and about to start a large extension, so money is needed elsewhere IMO though, the ADAM A5Xs and A7Xs are superb speakers and would suit your requirements very well indeed!
  8. Never thought I'd see a post re Brexit on here; there's been some good reading! Personally I'm all for it, for the right reasons I believe in, nothing to do with immigration whatsoever... Look back far enough, most of us are either Jewish, Geran, Celt, Viking or summat' else...
  9. Ah; haha... No ta. 24" is enough at the distance I sit at! Had a Thunderbolt display before that, that went bust, and I don't miss it!
  10. Thank; thoroughly enjoying them! Now to decide what to do with my Cyrus & KEF system that's feeling a bit redundant in the living room!
  11. Thanks; but no I've just stepped down from a NAD C352 integrated powering Monitor Audio RX2 speakers; they're an 8" woofer and near field they were too much, bloody brilliant when turned up though The JBLs are more than enough and kick out sound and bass-depth/punch that belies their size!
  12. Well after today's demo (please note all speakers were very well run in); I used music from MAW, Eric Morillo, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin, Flume, Hed Kandi, London Elektricity, The XX, Massive Attack, Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5, SOAD and Rammstein. The findings are/were: - Adam F5s; lovely. Great sounding speaker from the off, but it just wasn't clicking... - KRK Rokit 6s; yeah, ok... Very coloured to suit dance music only IMO - Focal Alpha 50s; tinny as they come, thin and a bit painful... Looked great though! - M-Audio BX6s; same as the KRK's, coloured, bass dependent and that's it... Great to push loud with some MAW blasting through them, but they couldn't handle much else IMO - JBLs; wow! And I mean wow... They sounded fantastic. Very taut bass, plenty of slam and power when turned loud, but don't lose that ability at lower volumes! Great midrange, very detailed on vocals, but not painful Not bright, just open/dynamic at the top end which worked well with all the music I tried! Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon before training where I appear to have buggered my left shoulder again; so was nice to get home, tidy my desk/office a bit and get the JBLs set up Some pics: The interface (USB from my Mac Mini in, 1/4" cables out)
  13. No; I was simply stating to stay away from silver type cables...
  14. With RX6s; stay away from silver cables! The MA speakers are superb, but they're know for their traits into brightness when partnered with the wrong separates or cables! A big seller over here in the UK is Van Damme Blue! Its very good but basic cable and works very well! Another decent seller is the Chord Odyssey 2 or 4 (biwire) speaker cable and that's what I have currently; ran this when I had my RX6 speakers with a NAD C356BEE integrated, but run it now between my Cyrus 8DAC/PSX-R system and KEF LS50 speakers For me, too much money is spent on cables when IMO, it makes little difference! More money should be spent on the separates and music!!! It's very much a snake oil topic and people get really worked up about it... I'm a firm believe in well made and sensibly priced cables
