  1. I enjoyed your article and want to try it myself. What is the name of the DSP VST file? I cant seem to find it anywhere?
  2. The Teac editor is converting to PCM then back to DSD. If you bring in the files and compare them in Audition, you will see changes to the file even without doing any editing at all
  3. Pros: Really removes record pops and clicks without messing with the underlying music Only 1/10 second delay from real time You can monitor what was removed Easily defeatable Easy operation and set up Control from front panel, phone app and/or browser Digitize music onto network attached storage or usb attached storage Metadata including cover art retrieved via internet and embedded into digitized files Browser based track splitting and editing included Quality adc and dac included Built-in headphone jack for listening/monitoring Pushed or pulled firmware/software updates Company continually supports all products including discontinued Hardware upgradable (at a cost) Cons: Does not include a phono preamp (can be a good thing) Use with a pre/pro/AVR that has a built-in phono preamp takes some cleaver wiring/setup Firmware updates require re-pairing of computer browser. Wow! I am impressed with this product. I backed it in it's crowd-funding stage on Indiegogo and am glad that I did. This product is now discontinued but they have several products that replace it with even more features (at a cost increase). I will have the option to upgrade mine to the new feature set for $500 when available. The company owners provide great support and are very visible. They come to many trade shows. I often use the product just for listening to old recordings. I am amazed at how well the pops and clicks are removed without bothering the underlying music. The removal monitoring lets you listen to just what has been removed to make sure. You can also change the aggressiveness of removal for yourself. The recording and metadata retrieval works very well and all of my audiophile friends ask me to help them with digitization of their prized vinyl. The audiophiles that have seen this system at my house have all purchased one. It is not the cheapest add-on, but it has made a big difference in my system. This product will also work with any other analog source such as cassettes, tape, FM radio, etc. It was interesting that it actually removed pops and clicks in real time from cassette recordings that i made in the 80s of old records!

Software updates via SweetVinyl.com Connect to SweetVinyl mobile app and other audio devices on home network Operates with manual front panels or smartphone remote control https://sweetvinyl.com/collections/legacy-products/products/sc-2-legacy
  5. Should I post reviews for products that are no longer for sale by the manufacturer? In other words it may be available on the used market but cannot be purchased new. Also, what about subwoofers? What category would a product like the sweetvinyl sugarcube products go into? https://sweetvinyl.com/ They digitize records in real time to remove surface noise as well as allow recording of the records along with retrieval of metadata. Is there a method that people could use to ask followup questions to the contributors of these reviews?
  6. Is there any way to go back and edit my own review? That might be a good thing as opinions may change as one uses a product.
  7. Pros Excellent sounding speaker... with good amplification Low cost for a good 3-way speaker Cons Requires good amplification Cheap vinyl finish Low efficiency and low impedance I tried this out on the Marantz NR1200 AVR and was not blown away by the sound. It was good, but not great. I then looped in the Benchmark AHB2 power amp and wow, what a difference! Therein lies the conundrum. How do you rate a budget speaker that doesn't sound amazing until you drive it with an expensive high-quality amplifier? It does sound much better than the price would suggest, but only if you use a great amplifier. I rated it 3 stars because the real value case isn't there.
  8. Pros: Great sound Solid build Feature rich HDMI 2.1 upgradable One of the few pre/pros with an 8-channel analog input HEOS streaming is excellent Many integration options including web-based remote control High quality DACs Very flexible configuration options Runs cool Cons: 100Mbps ethernet connection No USB-B connectivity HEOS is only 2-channel and doesn't yet support Qobuz Audyssey room correction downsamples to 48khz prior to output Phono stage is just adequate One of the most flexible and feature-rich pre/pros currently available. It is very stable even with all of those features and "just works." A dizzying array of integration options and still simple to use. The manufacturer has said that they will make an HDMI 2.1 upgrade available via send-in for a nominal fee sometime around summer 2020. I tested this unit with a Piega speaker array consisting of 2 Piega P10 for the front, Piega Coax center, 6 Piega 1.2 for the surrounds and Atmos overhead channels. I also used 2 Sherbourn 7/2100a amplifiers, a computer, exaSound e38, Studer Revox 795, Studer A80 and Sugarcube sc-2.
  9. Pros: Low Cost Simple to use Good and clean power Pre-outs Subwoofer support Streaming ability - local and internet based Plays DSD without conversion Cons: Streaming does not include many services Network stability is not the best No room correction No filtering and crossover settings available for the subwoofer output Android control app is not great This integrated amp is a low-cost way to support analog as well as digital sources with plenty of power. There are several ways to stream both local files as well as internet sourced files and services. None of the "hi-res" streaming services are supported although you can stream local "hi-res" pcm and dsd files. I had a few instances where high bitrate files stuttered while streaming even though the integrated amp was ethernet connected to a 10Gbps network. When I did get a steady connection, the sound quality was very good through my connected Elac Unifi B5 bookshelf speakers. This is not an audiophile product, but would be a decent choice for a bedroom/garage/office type of system.

  11. Pros: Covers a niche market segment Good amplification internally and includes pre-outs in case you need more power Subwoofer outputs with filtering Low profile design HEOS streaming system works very well and has broad support including Amazon Music Ultra HD Good quality DACs Low cost Cons: Converts DSD to PCM prior to playback HEOS does not yet support Qobuz nor .iso files Not HDMI 2.1 upgradable No Dolby Vision support This is a very unusual unit. It is built for 2-channel audio, but it also has HDMI inputs and output. The combination of these two makes this unit very well adapted to a bedroom or office system that also has a Television or other HDMI sources. The sound quality is very good for a system of this cost. It even has tone and balance controls that can be bypassed. Up to 2 subwoofers can be added. The HEOS software that this unit uses is a great system and is continually being updated with more streaming options. Google and Alexa integration is included. It is hard to beat this AVR for its cost, good sound and flexibility.

  14. Where would you put a product such as the Marantz AV-8805. A preamp with both digital and analog processing with no amplifier built in? It is a preamp but not analog only. It is not an AVR as it has no amplifier.
  15. Perhaps a category for Preamps/Integrated Amps/AVRs
