  1. Except my TS-469 Pro isn't supported ;(
  2. This is great news. I wish my MAC license would allow me to use it on my QNAP, but hey, I'm not complaining!
  3. Any reports on the sound quality of the QNAP JR app yet guys?
  4. Try another factor of ten. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Yeah, I hear ya, that number does seem awfully small, even if it is basically just for Europe. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Europeans in general have a a greater appreciation for quality music reproduction than most North Americans based on the amount of live concerts of various genres that are happening at any given time all over Europe, many of which are free.
  6. There are a lot of reasons uncompressed or high resolution audio is not appealing to the masses. Many of you have certainly touched on them already. Free streaming vs. paid subscriptions is certainly at the top of the list. Part of the reason is the way the general public listens to music first of all. I believe that audio quality is hard to discern on mobile devices, cheap earbuds/headphones, small speaker systems, generic computer speakers, wireless or Bluetooth devices, etc. Even in most car audio environments it is hardly noticeable to the untrained ear. Then there is the type of music that the masses listen to regularly. Some music lends itself to high sound quality more than others. Those of us who are on the board communities like this who take fidelity seriously are by far and away the minority. Personally, I've been an audiophile for 30 years and I only really pay attention to quality sound when I'm in my dedicated listening environment. The rest of the time it is simply background noise. I don't stream audio for critical listening, I buy the high res file, sacd, cd or vinyl and listen to it that way. I don't think I'm alone but the masses wouldn't even have a decent "stereo" now if it weren't for home theater systems. Steve Jobs wasn't interested in offering high res when Neil Young tried to convince him to offer it via iTunes. Pono is defunct. Apple has $100 billion in liquid cash. I think that speaks volumes. The most we can hope for is some sort of provider offering it as an upgraded service, a la Spotify I think. There just isn't enough demand for a stand alone high res streaming service to make it profitable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. I've had Seagate and Western Digital drives fail. I've had Seagate and Western Digital drives work well. I still use both, WD Red in my NAS and WD firewire and Tbolt external drives and Seagate in my eSata OWC raid. All sound the same to my ears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I think I must be the only audiophile in the world who find 6Moons reviews completely worthless. . . pretty much always. They are typicaly 5.5 pages of jibberish then 2 to 3 sentences of somewhat discernible opinion. That being said, yes I did read it, no, it didn't help. I agree about the return policy. I'm not even sure what the Auraliti and Sonore policies are but you have a very valid point. At this point using a powerline LAN adapter from Trendnet has my home network working pretty well and I'm streaming from my NAS OK. eLyric is still a bit quirky but hopefully I'll get all of my bugs worked out. Once I have all the bugs worked out, I'll make a decision whether to settle with streaming from my NAS or buy a dedicated server. I'm not familiar with Antipodes Audio but that adds another option I suppose, and another cable to consider too.
  9. That does clear it up and is excellent information. Thanks for the explanation and insight! I greatly appreciate it.
  10. So what is the optimal setup for the PS Audio PWD Mk. II, since it doesn't convert DSD to PCM, one of your upgraded designs (with or without a custom I2S) or current design with I2S?
  11. No, I am using my general network with static IPs. I'm not an IT guy so didn't realize I could set up a dedicated network outside of my general one. I'll have to see how that is accomplished. I was thinking all three are Linux based. I think you are the first to recommend async USB over I2S when I2S as an option and it sounded in your earlier post that the W4S I2S was really special. I haven't experimented with the various filters because still getting it up and running and just use Native mode over the bridge. The other thing about the Auraliti, I was thinking, is the external drive and power supply could make for a more reliable, or servicable, unit. But, since it's all about the sound, I still covet opinions in that regard.
  12. It's been a bit since I started this thread. I ended up buying the PWD Mk. II with the bridge so that I could simply access my files off of my NAS (it is the server). However, I'm not very satisfied with the stability of my home network (lots of dropouts, unreliable connectivity but am still working on that) so I am now thinking of going with the attached method I originally planned. I would love to hear your thoughts on my thoughts. I'm considering these three: 1. W4S MS-2 connecting via I2S 2. Sonore Signature Music Server with I2S output and the upgraded power supply 3. Auraliti PK-90 with upgraded power supply and an external USB drive, connecting via async USB. I'm particularly interested in the ultimate sound quality between these three devices. I have no problem ripping my own CDs to the NAS or external USB and transferring them so the server. I am Mac based so FLAC isn't my primary codec anyway. Thanks.
  13. Thanks Paul, that's exactly what I need to know. I assumed that importing the Library meant copying to the media folder. I'll give it a try. I also have XLD, use it to rip CDs to file but didn't realize I could use it to edit metadata in an already existing file. Good to know.
