  1. Schiit is going to swap it out, although they still suspect a system issue. As I told them, I tried 2 amps, 3 USB cables, several USB ports and 2 interconnects. I tried it on my laptop which had no other audio device installed on it and I removed my main DAC from my desktop in case they were conflicting. Finally, I installed Foobar and set it up per Schiit's instructions. The results were exactly the same: Loki lights up to verify a valid stream but there is no sound. Bottom line is I still suspect it's defective hardware. I'll let you guys know what the results are. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
  2. Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know the difference between DSD vs DoP. In any event, I had the bitstream set to DoP and I still get no sound.
  3. First of all, thanks to all who are trying to help me through this. Miska: I hooked the Loki up to a 2nd computer using a different (shorter) USB cable. Unfortunately, that didn't help. And yes, Loki is definitely receiving a valid stream. I just can't seem to get it to output any sound to my amp. Paul: This is a tough one. I set up 2 zones: One to play DSD files and one to play my PCM as DSD. The former zone's volume control doesn't work --the setting's down to zero and I can't get the slider to move. I thought perhaps this is disabled when native DSD files are being played (does anyone know?). However the PCM to DSD zone does have an active volume control and there is no sound, even though Loki lights up to confirm a valid stream. JavierS: I have set up bitstream as per the instructions on Schiit's website. I don't have a "DSD bitstream in DoP format" box under my device settings. Are you using JRMC 19? I noticed that the instructions/ picture of Media Center on Schiit's site also doesn't match up exactly to what I have in my software. The device is set as "Schitt Audio DSD Device (WASAPI)"
  4. I just received my Loki today and it's apparently a defective device. I have it setup in JR Media Center 19. The box lights up; the 2nd light comes on when I play a DSD file; The pass thru with my other DAC works. But--I have no sound at all from this box. I even setup a zone for PCM to DSD. Again, the box lights up that it detects the DSD being played and Media Center shows the file playing. But no sound. I have an email in to Schiit, we'll see if they come up with anything. But it looks bad at this point.
  5. Little warning here: I got a coupon mailed to me by SOS for 25% off the album price. I entered the code and it took the 25% off the price on the checkout screen, but after entering my CC info and purchasing the music my receipt shows the full price was charged. ($24 USD instead of $18) I'll check with my CC company later to see what they say. BTW, the code is SOSTB25 ; it may only work for current SOS members.
  6. Hi, This is my first post, although I've been lurking here about 3 months. I'm 57 yrs old, a 'retired' musician (organist, keyboards) and I've decided to start listening to music instead of concentrating on making it. In February I bought a DacMagic Plus. Aside from the fact that it fit into my modest budget, it also serves as a headphone amp for my Grado RS-1, and it can be a preamp for my Mackie studio monitors. My PC has a Creative X-FI soundcard in it but I've never spent much time using it, though I know it's possible to use this card to preamp my monitors. To make a long story short, I'm not entirely satisfied with the sound that I get from the DacMagic's USB input (too harsh, sterile for my taste). A friend let me borrow his M2Tech Hiface for a couple of days and I was impressed with the added warmth/soundstage that comes from this device using a modest rca digital cable. I've been researching the many options available and at my pricepoint I've narrowed it down to three: 1. Keep the DacMagic and get a new Hiface 2 to replace the DM's USB input and possibly get a linear PSU to add to the Hiface. 2. Get the Audiophilleo 2 with Purepower instead of the Hiface. This would cost close to double the price of the DacMagic alone. 3. Get a new DAC. I've narrowed that down to either the Wadia 121, which has all of the features of the DacMagic I listed above, or a combo of the Schiit Bifrost & Asgard. I would have to connect my monitors to the X-FI if I went the latter way, but most of my listening is through my headphones anyway. Aside from the vast wealth of info I'm trying to take in I have the problem of living in a dealership 'dead zone'. There is no practical way of being able to audition any of these devices before purchase, so I'll have to live with what I decide. To be honest I'm leaning toward the Audiophilleo, but I wonder if it makes sense to spend $1k to connect to a $599 DAC. I know that there are many experienced & knowledgeable people that participate in this forum. Any honest opinions on what my best option is would be greatly appreciated.
