  1. I thought about this option too. Which dac do you use may I ask?
  2. I currently have my Apple TV 4K HDMI to TV, and from the TV's Toslink to the dac. My dac has AES/EBU digital in. Would the VanityPro then allow the Apple Music hi-res lossless files to play through?
  3. I have been playing music with a Mac Mini w/SSD -> Amarra -> Weiss Dac2 (Firewire) combo since 2009. All very old hardware and software now, but this setup still plays my local music files fine. Lately I have subscribed to Apple Music which won't run on such an old Mac, and I chose to stream it through an Apple TV 4K via toslink to the Weiss Dac2. The sound is decent, but not comparable to playing from the local files. I am looking for suggestions on an update/upgrade path to my old system. I mainly listen to streaming now because of the ability to discover new music, so I'd like to see what your thoughts are on these options: Wattson Audio Emerson Digital Pros: tiny footprint; good UI on the app; I can still keep the Dac2 with AES/EBU digital interface Cons: can't play DSD; can't link with Apple Music except with Airplay (therefore no Apple Hi-Res Lossless files?) Mac Studio Pros: as I understood so far, can link Apple Music to HQPlayer for upsampling via CoreAudio? Cons: don't know if there are options to link to the Dac2 which only has Firewire 400, AES/EBU and Toslink digital All of these are completely new to me and I don't really know anything more than dropping their names and acronyms (e.g. I don't think I'd really fully know what Roon, or Roon Core, Roon Block, etc. etc.! are until I actually use it; between a streamer and a computer (saw "NAA" but no chance to figure out what it does yet...) which provides better audio quality if in the same price range). Would appreciate some suggested directions. Thank you!
  4. I second lazycatken's comments. Solutions for users running headless systems would be so useful!
  5. Fabrice, I'm not familiar with iOS programming, but can you offer plug-in's to the apple remote app? sorry if this is a dumb question...
  6. Agree that ytrack has great potential for cont'd development. Using computer as source for music playback is still foreign to the mass market but I think we'll eventually get there. Looking forward to many versions to come!
  7. Don't know what I did but it works now with iTunes 10, and beautifully! Thanks Fabrice. Any plans to add search by category? That would be most helpful.
  8. Hi Fabrice, I know it takes long for anything to get through Apple, when do you think the new version can be released? I downloaded the current version and it doesn't work with iTunes 10.
  9. Just jumping in to push this thread up to see if there were new solutions for the iPad remote? I'm finally getting an iPad and it would be a dream come true to use it as a media center remote control! One thing I agree that's important is for a remote's ability to restart the computer with iPad/iPod, as Amarra still likes to quit once in a while...
  10. Daniel and everyone, just one more question on firewire cable, how are you linking the firewire 800 to the dac2's firewire 400? Will a cheap adapter degrade the sound so much that the better cable becomes pointless?
  11. Ted, were you disabling journaling on OSX 10.6 or 10.5? I just updated to snow leopard and I couldn't get the "disable" with the option key.
  12. "On the odd occasion sound mutes on start up, this is easily cleared by closing iTunes and PV and re-opening. It is the only slight bug I have suffered with PV, compared to several with Amarra which is still incomplete." Steve, I just downloaded the PV to give it a try but could not get it to start properly once, something was always lagging behind, sometimes something comes up after a while (like the memory is ready to play), sometimes I can't get anything out of it and have to not only restart the PV, but also the computer. I also could not play 96 or 192 files - no sound. I will write the developer for this but I wonder if you've experienced this? On the sound quality side, I had a strange experience where the first blast I heard from the PV had a very soundstage and slightly deeper like previously described in previous posts, but this experience diminished by a big margin after I was switching between the PV and Amarra (although everytime I switched to Amarra was because I couldn't get PV to play, memory overload?). Also when comparing, I must use playlist mode on Amarra otherwise there's no comparison to PV even with a brief audition.
  13. Ted, it would be nice if you can also compare it with the Dac1-Mk2 which is similarly priced...
  14. **oops, please excuse this duplicate post Lee and Gary, the person at the shop told me to choose the Kingston V+ instead of the OCZ because of reliability. He suggested Intel as top choice (distributed by Kingston and marketed as SSDNow I believe?) if you're willing to pay for the extra bit both for performance and reliability.
