  1. Hi guys, Sorry if this has been asked and answered. I did a thorough search on the internet and didn't really find the answer. If I connect my apple tv via optical to a audioengine D1 DAC, then connect the DAC via red & white rca cables to a yamaha av receiver...will the AVR's internal DAC be bypassed or will the AVR's DAC still be doing the conversion and i'm wasting my money using the D1 in this system? A related question is whether i can have the HDMI and optical connections on my apple TV plugged into my receiver at the same time, and then have the receiver pull the audio from the optical (thereby utilizing the D1) and the video from the HDMI, or will the audio be pulled from the HDMI and the optical at the same time, or just from the HDMI? not sure how that's going to work. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. New to the forum and don't know a lot about this stuff. Frank
  2. Thanks for your help everyone. I will give XLD a shot. It's really a shame though because I really liked using Max for other conversions. It seemed like a great program but obviously it is unable to make the hi-res to mp3 conversion properly.
  3. No, I am keeping the original files of course. As I said I did this all the time with no problem on dbpoweramp back when i used windows. As I understand it a really good encoder can make a completely transparent mp3 of a hi res flac file, meaning that the human ear cannot hear the difference between the two files. That said the idea was to keep the hi res files for listening at home while also having a smaller mp3 copy for use on my iphone while i'm out and about. Can anyone help? I refuse to believe that Max cannot make this conversion. I am getting really frustrated because of how many albums i encoded this way yesterday without testing them...all silent and useless.
  4. Hi guys, I just got a macbook pro and so have started using Max to convert my Flac24/96 files into 320 mp3 files....I used to do this on my old windows laptop no problem with dbpoweramp. Anyway, I spend a couple hours doing this today with max and put the mp3s on my iphone only to find out that none of them have any sound! Am I missing something or can Max not convert HD Flac into Mp3? Everything seemed perfect with the conversion and the load into itunes and from itunes into my iphone. The files play on the phone but with no sound. Please help if you know another program for Mac that can do this conversion or if you know what i'm doing wrong with Max. Thanks very much.
  5. Howdy, Just got my first macbook pro...in the process of moving some music over to the internal drive, installed pure music, etc... anyway two things i noticed that are driving me nuts. 1). i can not skip forward on any itunes tracks anymore. this is regardless of whether i am using "memory play" on pure music or not. This is annoying me to no end. 2). My playback is not gapless. This is so regardless of whether the album is checked "gapless album" in itunes or not, and regardless of whether i am in memory play or not. This is driving me insane. I'm trying to listen to abbey road and the second of nothing after Golden Slumbers is really making the album unlistenable. I turn off Pure Music and both of these problems are solved. Can anyone help me fix these issues so that i can use Pure Music?
  6. Hi guys, I know many of you are owners or former owners of the macbook pro...anyone have any advice on which model I should get? I'd just like some opinions as to whether it's worth the extra $400 to get the better graphics card...or the extra $200 for the 8gb of memory rather than the 4, etc.. What is the best option for connecting the macbook pro to a peachtree inova? any cable recommendations? Any music related software/upgrades i should check out? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated this will be my first Mac.
  7. The squeezebox touch connects wirelessly to the inova? Which DAC would be used in that case?
  8. I don't really understand the macmini as a server...if it's headless how will I be able to control it/ set up the itunes library etc...it seems like some people do this with an ipad but i don't have one of those. Any recs on speaker wire/interconnects? I have literally never bought passive speakers before in my life.
  9. Hello everyone, This is my first post on this fine website. I have decided to buy a peachtree inova along with the D5 speakers for my new listening room. I checked these out and it looks like i can't go wrong. The problem is I don't really know the best way to send my 24/96 flac files to the inova. I have a 160gb ipod classic i plan on using with it in the meantime while i try to figure it out but of course ipods do not support anything higher than 24/48 i don't think. I have a lot of 24/96 flac files and even more Alac files in 16/44...they are all sitting on a cheap external hdd (samsung story 1.5tb) which i have connected to my toshiba satellite laptop via USB. I keep the 24/96 files in flac and play those on foobar2000 while all the redbook stuff i play with itunes so i can move it back and forth on and off of my iphone. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on how to serve all the files to the inova, keeping in mind that i am quite the noob and have very little know-how with this stuff, I am all ears. Also, when i get the inova/d5 package...will i need speaker wire and stuff or will i get everything i need from peachtree?
