    best sound for the buck
  1. dmccombs, from your last sentence 'or run Mountain Lion and only play music up to 96/24' I guess you are talking about using usb1 in this case, right ? within limitation of 96/24 - did you also compare usb1 with usb2 ? If so, what are your findings ?
  2. Hi Ted, as the thread is somewhat slowing down anyway, may i ask why you prefer (in general ? ) usb over firewire ? i personally am happy to have the choice. i find usb2 has a little bit more resolution and may be soundstage whereas fw has more soul / sounds more relaxed / dirty - if applicable. i choose from both interfaces depending on the 'material' intended to being played has your usb preference something to do with dsd playback ?
  3. again updated to 1.7.5 at first with the same result on xp_32 and w7_64. this was via fw express-card with TI chipset (recommended by TC electronics). after that, hooked up the mytek via onboard fw controler (Ricoh with 4 pin connector). and yes - it lets me play 96kHz again. next test will be to cross-check the used fw cables. thanks for help getting this solved. dubbio
  4. Harald, yes it came with the trace cut right out of the box (around early 2012). At the time of purchase I looked under the top cover to check whether or not i would need to do this myself.
  5. blaine78 and Harald, i want to thank you both for feed back, especially with older units. so far i had the same results with xp_32 (old drv) and w7_64 (newer drv). - not too much hope left. anyway, i will have to try again. if it doesn't work i will contact dealer and / or mytek. dubbio
  6. now i did what i normally wouldn't because risk of failure. i flashed back to 1.7.1.7 and guess what ? it lets me play 96kHz tracks again (via fw)... so this is truly a flaw within the 1.7.5.x FW - at least as far as i am concerned. - anyone else ? through the top coveri i can read 4.4 on the board sticker (don't can read the full P/N). guess this is board revsion.
  7. firedog, thank you very much for testing ! and yes, i forgot to mention asio out of course. i have an rather early unit. may be this is related to older mainboard layout only. - can you tell the hardware revision or build date of your unit ? thanks again and regards dubbio
  8. hello everybody. since update to the latest firmware 1.7.5 (beta or final doesn't matter) my mytek will no longer play wav or flac tracks with sample rate 96kHz or higher via firewire. if i use usb2 everything works. i have some vinyl rips in 96/24 that cannot be played via firewire. with 41 or 44 kHz tracks there is no problem. i also downloaded some 96 and 192 tracks with the same result. the display shows correct sample rate but there is no signal (level meters don't show up). this is with foobar 1.2.9 under windows7. upsampling on / off dosen't make a difference, too. can someone try this out and confirm please ? i would like to know whether my unit is faulty or they should delete 96 / 192 pcm playback from firewire spec if the device is updated to firmware 1.7.5.
  9. lintweaker, usb or fw ? in case of fw - can you do me a favor and try to play some non-regular PCM (e.g. 96kHz / 24bit) and tell us whether it was possible ?
  10. mtan002, i am not sitting in front of my unit right now and thus cannot tell you which button to press next. but if i remember correctly with new firmware you need to confirm a second time when switching to bypass. i guess this has been implemented to prevent potential damage to speakers or phones in case switching to bypass by accident.
  11. adamthebrave, just again updated to weiss 4.1.2 under w7_64. after running the installer.exe you need to reboot. before reboot, edit the weissfirewire.inf (or just paste an edited copy of .inf into c:/program/weissfirewire) after reboot attach mytek with input set to fire. in my case windows update searches for a driver wo success resulting in an unknown device. open device manager and look for the unknown device. choose update driver 2nd option and point it to the folder with the edited inf. confirm installing not certified drivers. - that's all. this is how it works under w7. - don't now about w8. or just use the drivers provided by mytek. - don't expect any difference in SQ with the newer drivers.
  12. PS: rather at the end also replace the '&' after Mytek with a blank space: DESCRIPTION_DEVICE_2 = "Mytek&Stereo192-DSD DAC" but may be this one doesn't matter. just in case it doesn't work with the '&' in this line.
  13. adamthebrave, if you are using the pasted .inf below then you need to correct two lines as follows (delete the blank spaces two times each after Weiss_En and Mytek&St): [DeviceList.NTx86] %DESCRIPTION_DEVICE_1%=DriverInstall,1394\Weiss_En gineering_Ltd.&Vesta %DESCRIPTION_DEVICE_2%=DriverInstall,1394\Mytek&St ereo192-DSD_DAC and [DeviceList.NTamd64] %DESCRIPTION_DEVICE_1%=DriverInstall,1394\Weiss_En gineering_Ltd.&Vesta %DESCRIPTION_DEVICE_2%=DriverInstall,1394\Mytek&St ereo192-DSD_DAC rest of .inf should be ok.
  14. @adamthebrave open device manager and look for unknown devices. - then choose update driver.
