  1. For these three discs it was either an "e" with an accent or an umlaut.
  2. Yes, each of the three albums had a an accented character and the workaround did the trick. Added note: I had a problem with the product of the telnet session to another of the old SACDs. ISO2DSF would not process the ISO to produce the dsf files. Fixed that issue by using the sacd_extract_gui from SourceForge with the latest version of sacd_extract. Worked fine that way. So I think that takes care of all those single layer SACDs. Did not think I would ever get that done, and indeed, would not have without all the help from this forum. Bravo with special thanks to Phthalocyanine!
  3. DSD Conversion Failure.rtf Here's the screen shot.
  4. I have successfully ripped about 50 older SACDs. These are single layer meant to be played only on an SACD player. Of that group, 3 failed using the telnet with sacd_extract_160 files. I have seen a reference to some SACDs not working with sacd_extract_160. Can someone provide some insight into how to deal with this issue? Is there another version of sacd_extract that would read these discs?
  5. Many thanks to all those who contributed to making this possible! I have been purchasing SACDs since they became available almost 20 years ago. This process has been a long time coming. Herb
  6. Got it! The usual problem for the uninitiated - the toggle... Herb
  7. I am using a Sony BDP-S590 and Putty on Windows 10. After following the guide from Phthalocyanine I am having the following problem. Can't get the sacd extract program to work. Putty Screen Shot.rtf Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Herb
  8. Well, to answer my own question, I've found that the Luxman works great with JPlay. Set up is easy and there is a driver on the Luxman Japan website that supports Windows 10. As Chris said in his review, this dac produces beautiful music. I am curious about the apparent lack of interest in JPlay. I have found it to be an elegant, great sounding application for those who don't use a Mac.
  9. I have just added a Luxman DA-06 to my system and would welcome suggestions about how to get the best sound out of it using a Windows notebook. I have been using JPlay with my Auralic Vega - works great. Anyone using JPlay with the Luxman? Thanks, Herb
  10. I have owned the XP-20 and have a friend who pairs that preamp with the X350.5. I've also heard the Aerial 7T. I can think of no reason why those components should produce a bright, edgy sound. From from I've read about the Benchmark it is very good but a bit clinical. Also given what I've read, I think the Vega may be just the ticket. Best regards, Herb
  11. From what I've learned from this thread, I am now streaming 24/192k files. I must say that the Squeezebox Touch is a small wonder. Using it with Squeezebox Server, and a CA Dacmagic Plus, I have access to my entire library of FLAC and WAV audio files. All resolutions including 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 192k. Add MOG to the mix and you have simply amazing accessibility to the musical world. I won't pretend to compare the quality of the sound to what's possible with better DACs and good vinyl, but for a second system it more than satisfies the "good enough" test. For one who comes from the world of $1.99 records and 1/2" tape, it's a dream come true.
  12. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I've decided to try the Squeezebox Touch and have one on order. It has never been my intention to "stream" from a server, rather to do as P.Raulerson said and simply move the files to a player. Seems that doesn't pose any unusual obstacles. I want to put in place a "player" that will provide access to files of any resolution (<= 192k) and send them to the DAC in my two music systems. Looks like a SBT should be able to do that with the 3rd party add-on. Thanks to jriver for the link to whitebear. Looks very cool. I didn't realize that the SB eco-system has become so wide. To realhi: in my world moderately priced clients would be sub-$1500, and I do have a 24/7 server in place that can provide the base for the music servers. I'm an old codger, with roots in audiophilia and computers, continuing the never ending search for music that sounds like what I hear in live venues. Very eclectic taste runs from classical to contemporary indie and just about everything in between. Adding computer sourced music has been great fun, and it's clear that we are still very much at the beginning of this. CA has been a great help. Herb
  13. Thanks, firedog. You are correct about the SBT passing 192k files. I have been looking for a client that's compatible with DLNA/UPNP, and unfortunately the SBT is not. However, I see that Squeezebox Server can stream to the Touch. Does seem, though, that streaming 192k files is still farm from standard practice. I do listen to 192k files with jPlay and the notebook and they sound great. Can only hope that we get more support for this as these high resolution files become more commonplace. From the lack of response to this thread, it would seem that few have explored this territory via a network connection.
