  1. The main problem was that headphones that were connected into Korg DS-DAC-10R. I disconnected them when I was recording and the hiss level went down.
  2. Correction: I think VinylStudio for Macintosh hiss filter does perfect job (better than Logic Pro X). I applied hiss filter after applying RIAA correction.
  3. For this purpose, I have Mac Pro 2008. It has optical in and out. However, I have also RME AIO card where optical spdif goes up to 192 kHz and ADAT in it has 8 channels: It has also two analog inputs and outputs (both rca and xlr) and coaxial spdif input and output. I have Korg DSD 10R for DSD input and output. Alternatively I use Wavelink 192 USB-SPDIF -converter to Densen 410 XS DAC/CD-player. I have three extra USB cards: 2 x Tango USB 2 (FWUSB2A-E) cards (you get really high sound quality without noise) and one Tango USB 3.0 card to handle all the USB cards.
  4. Logic Pro X Denoiser (the legacy filter activated by pressing the Option key when inserting the Audio FX effect) does even better job with Noise Type value 0 (white noise).
  5. Solution: I used VinylStudio for Macintosh hiss filter to filter the noise. The result is really good because, because the hiss was pure hiss from the phono input of Korg DS-DAC-10R converter.
  6. One option could be to change to Hegel v10 RIAA. It has -84dB noise (MM) and 52dB gain (with XLR).
  7. I have Korg DS-DAC-10R for ripping vinyls. The sound quality is really good, especially because you don't need any cable between the RIAA and the sound card. I am currently using Shure V15 type IV phono cartridge (MM type). Is there a good way to increase the gain of the phono input to the line level (maximum in digital domain)? DS-DAC-10R Setting Tool has the setting of input level from -60dB to 20dB. In Audiogate 4.5.2, phono gain is -49.5 to 31.5 dB However, from 0 to 20dB, there is noise, what I think is digital noise (because I think there couldn't be so much analog gain). With the setting 20dB the the recorded audio of the vinyl is about in line level (maximum in digital domain), when Shure V15 type IV phono cartridge (MM type) is used. However, with the setting 12dB, the recorded vinyl has about 9 dB to 6dB headroom, when Shure V15 type IV phono cartridge (MM type) is used.
  8. I have tested these too... Cardas Clear AES/EBU + Berkeley Audio Design Alpha USB + Cardas Clear Serial Buss (USB) which improve the sound quality
  9. The fan system of the Mac Pro is really really quiet. Only way you can here the air flowing is to put your ear close to the top of the computer.
  10. Thanks both Superdad and cpvnii. Yesterday, I got new Mac Pro 2014, but... ... Happily, the sound quality is as good as with Mac Pro 2008, so no need for Thunderbolt solution then. The power cable was PS Audio AC 12 connected to PS Audio Powerplant. I am using my own player.
  11. This is from http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f6-dac-digital-analog-conversion/apple-thunderbolt-better-audio-guaranteed-19227/: "I have iMac 21, 2013, Audirvana Plus, Weiss INT202, Devialet 170 with USB input (XMOS chip and more ..), Apogee DA16X Firewire, Apple Thunderbolt/Firewire Adapter, Belkin Thunderbolt Dock. Weiss INT202 with external power supply and Devialet are simultaneously connected with Belkin TB dock, Devialet sounds via USB better than Weiss INT202 to Devialet via AES, when I connect Devialet directly with iMac via USB, Weiss INT202 via AES is clearly better." My experience: Mac Pro 2008 8 core 4GB memory (currently I have 20GB memory , which improves sound quality) with Sonnet Tango USB FireWire has been much better than: Mac Pro 2008 8 core 4GB with existing USB ports Macbook Air late 2011 with 8GB memory with the existing USB ports Macbook Air late 2012 with 8GB memory with the existing USB ports So, I am looking for the thunderbolt solution that would fix the issue with the new Mac Pro (2014) and other Macs
  12. The USB ports in Macs are so bad that Mac Pro with the PCIe express USB card is the only choice.
  13. With Mac Pro 2008 8 core (costs 300$ second hand), you can install Sonnettech FireWire 400 + USB 2.0 card that is much better than any USB ports in any Macs.
  14. If you still have any change to get "Sonnet - Tango PCIe: FireWire 400/USB 2.0 PCI Express Card" I think it is the best device to correct the hardware problems in USB audio.
  15. Yes, maybe Hub tells that there is now enough power. You don't even need BPM.
