  1. Hi Golden Piggy, Thanks for the suggestion on running my fx pedal to my stereo at the highest rate possible (96Khz) I'll see what it does for the latency. And in answer to the questions you were asking, I have been using the 1/4" analogue outs of my fx pedal to stereo RCA ins ever since I noticed the digital delay while using the S/PDIF. I just thought the S/PDIF setup sounded much cleaner/free of noise, so I though if I could run that setup without the latency, I would like to try it again. Also, I don't prefer the sound of my Mirage speakers over a guitar amp, I just thought it would be a clever way to use my existing av setup without having to purchase another piece of equipment (guitar amp). From all the helpful posts i've gotten, It sounds like this is foolish/ill advised I'm looking into getting a guitar amp because of the cone differences and subsequent issues described earlier. Thanks for your time Goldenpiggy -Ben
  2. @ the surfing alien - I hear you loud and clear. I'll set the compression and look into decent practice amps. Thanks for the warning.
  3. @surfing alien - thanks for the warning. I didn't realize that there's a difference in guitar amp speakers and my quasi hi/fi (Mirage Omnipolar OM-10) speakers. Looks like my idea of saving money on the amp by running my guitar through my home stereo may be falling apart. You folks are great. Thanks for your guidance.
  4. @ Got Tinnitus - thank you for defining this issue. That's a great start. Also, thanks for the suggestion on gear - i'll give it a look/listen
  5. Hi Folks, Will a difference in the sample rate output from one piece of equipment (a guitar effects pedal)and the sample rate utilized by my stereo receiver cause a delay in the production of sound out of the speakers? I play/connect an electric guitar through a digital effects pedal board to my home stereo (rather than to a guitar amp). The guitar is connected to the effects board via a 1/4" mono cable (standard guitar cable). I then connect the digital pedal board to my Pioneer VSX-1020-K digital Receiver via a S/PDIF (digital coaxial cable). The sound is fantastic, but there is a delay between the moment I pluck a guitar string and the moment the sound comes out of my stereo speakers. If I connect the pedal board to my stereo via an analogue 1/4" RCA cable, there is NO delay (but the sound quality is inferior to the S/PDIF digital coax cable) Also, My receiver is channeling the digitally input guitar music directly (not altering the sound for 5.1 or any stereo/surround effects) I can select the sample rate output from the effect pedal: 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz or 96kHz. So, Will a difference in the sample rate output from my guitar effects pedal and the sample rate utilized by my stereo receiver cause that delay i'm hearing in the production of sound out of the speakers? I'm having an issue with this admittedly unorthodox music/equipment setup. I checked guitar forums to no avail and the Pioneer receiver manual/forums aren't helpful either, so I thought perhaps someone here might be able to help me understand my issue and hopefully even help me fix it. In advance, Thank you so much. Ben
