  1. Has anyone tried using this to be able to actually see a speakers radiation patterns at different frequencies?
  2. I have been reading this book lately: Loudspeakers: For music recording and reproduction [Hardcover] Philip Newell (Author), Keith Holland (Author) Amazon.com: Loudspeakers: For music recording and reproduction (9780240520148): Philip Newell, Keith Holland: Books I believe this is a clearly written and easily understandable book for beginners like me. It touches on many subjects concerning loudspeakers, rooms, and signal chains, and should cover everything your looking for.
  3. Are DRC and other correction programs usually compatible with dipole or open frame bass drivers? With my setup being 2 10" woofers in an open 'H' frame, I fear that any digital correction of any dips in the bass region could easily drive the open woofers to over-excursion.
  4. Thank's so much for this thread ted_b. My Laptop recently crapped out which has forced me to decide on a dedicated digital server and this setup seems perfect for me. Where can I learn more about linear power supplies?
  5. I'm interested to see what SL's new 'monitor speaker' is going to be like. From what I've seen its supposed to be a 4 speaker setup for stereo, but that's about all the info that's out there. I personally hope the mid/high and low sections have been separated so one can more easily deal with room modes etc. A quote from him on his websites forum: "So I have been experimenting on and off for some time now on a monitor, essentially on a form-follows-function evolution of the Orion without concern for WAF. I call it LX521, because it is something like my 21st speaker design as far as I can remember, a machine for which an essential element came together on 5/21 of this year. I will show the monitor at the Burning Amp Festival, hoping that the necessary parts for DIY will become available soon thereafter. SL"
  6. Forgive my ignorance, but where are you finding the $ savings vs the roughly $1400 cost of the listed V2?
  7. I would be very interesting in measuring my room/setup and being able to more concretely see what changes I make are (actually) doing. I recently moved to a much larger listening room, and have noticed many problems on the low end in the new room. This is even with dipole bass which was perfect in my previous listening rooms. So far it sounds like I have some major nodes and at least one large suckout, but its very difficult to tell exactly what's going on by ear. I also think listening to bass sweeps by ear is quite a laborious (200hz to 20hz 10-20 times in a row at realistic listening volumes...) , and for my untrained ears an unscientific, way to try and correct problems. I have been considering purchasing measuring equipment, but a recent computer crap out and possible system addition has put this on hold for now..
  8. I definitely agree with you here. I find it odd that Naim and other companies tried to go multi-amp active in the past (70's i think) but the concept was mainly unable to gain traction
  9. I personally believe that improved hearing at night or under low light conditions is a hard-wired condition based on our evolution. If we as a species can't see well at night I believe our hearing would have to be extra acute to stay alive back when we didn't have much more than sticks and stones.
  10. Reference earphones There aren't many earphones tested in the link, but he does show you how to measure and equalize any earphones for 'reference' quality.
  11. Mayhem- Can you expand further , or point me to some literature, on floor and ceiling reflections? I only have a fuzzy understanding of some low frequency reinforcement from floor reflections and I find what you said very interesting.
  12. Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46jO96bz_Fo
