  1. https://samplerateconverter.com/ Yuri is sometimes on this site. I use this to create DSD256 files from flac files. Its not cheap but its very good.
  2. British grown tea from Cornwall. Not cheap but a good selection of teas and herbals. https://tregothnan.co.uk/
  3. Swagmanlab in Hong Kong have been used by many people. I have one for an Audiolab M-Dac, which was well reviewed in the UK and a few comments on this site. This is a proper company specialising in power supplies and has been going for many years. They are around $125 for your voltage/ampage requirements . I replaced the electrolytics in mine with Mundorfs which was well worth it if you want to do it yourself. They have a higher component quality option which they can quote you on. Just yesterday I had an order from another small specialist HK dealer and that only took 10 days to get to the UK AND through UK customs, so the US should be similar. In the UK many people use MCRU linear power supplies. Usually around $350 plus shipping etc. I recently adjusted the voltage on one I had used on a 12V for a Cambridge Dac. This was to power my Allo USBridgeSignature. A massive improvement over the Nirvana, which in itself was an improvement over an IFI IPower mk1.
  4. I've only had this problem with DSD512 converted files. Currently with Volumio 3.xx I've never had a problem with clicks and pops. With Moode 7.30, currently I'm running with the 64bit experimental kernal and I've upped the audio buffer to 64kb and the output buffer to 256kb. So far only a single click every few minutes.
  5. I have successfully used DSD512 with files converted with Yuri Kurzunov's software. Have used Moode 7.3.0 (with both 32bit and the experimental 64bit kernal for the Usbridge) and Volumio 3.078 for playback. The DAC is a Topping D70.
  6. The link mods are for non smd only. I never touch smd components. Yes I have thought of battery power at the moment other things are taking higher priority. I'm currently using an Audiolab M-DAC with Swagman power supply and upgraded many electrolytic caps myself. Saw some reviews from last year which still rate the sound highly. It is extremely good even with just 96khz USB No DSD unfortunately so will probably change next year with DIY boards, possibly an R2R DAC. I am also using an XDUOO XD-05 with a Burson op-amp. This portable (just about) DAC does DSD and is battery powered, about 10 hours. I use this in conjunction with an ASUS Tinker Board S running Volumio. It uses an AK4490 and I really like the sound. The Burson opens it out. Its my Thai system as my wife and I winter in Thailand and its easy to transport.
  7. visit http://audiopurist.pl/en/mods-en/cambridge-audio-dacmagic-100-modification-eng/ if you are not into unsoldering-resoldering components then give it a miss. Naturally one should ditch the wall wart that comes with it and get a proper power supply 12V/2A. I use one I bought from MCRU in the UK many years ago but I suspect its out of your pocket. Its a decent DAC which still gets good reviews. I only use it these days on a headphone system.
  8. A nice cheap option is the Cambridge DacMagic 100 (WM8742). Performance can be enhanced by changing the the capacitors, if you are up for that.
  9. The improvements brought by upgrading the PSU are well worth it. A cheap and straight forward way to bring noticable improvements.
  10. I have to own up to listening to my system about 50% of the time atm. A lot of upgrading has been going on. I have notice that I'm definately prefer listening to to music recorded in the 60s and 70s. I think its the simplicity of the recordings. Probably I'm at that time of life where there's more to look back at than look forward to.
  11. I set up an HTPC using a Sapphire Tech AMD Brazos set up. Dirt cheap. I had to buy a SPDIF connector (£5 and the mobo has provision for one) as it only comes with an optical o/p. Realtek chip 24bit 192khz output and the on-board graphics does blu-ray and mkv. 6 Sata connectors and USB3. Not bad for £110.
  12. I've just ordered a Seasonic X-560. Very highly recommeded psu. It will replace a cheap one. Interestingly my mains set up seems to be the same as yours. I was thinking of the sotm devices but this seems a more logical way to initially go now I'm using a USB2 DAC connection. I won't be able to fit it in until Saturday but will report back then.
  13. No the 100 uses a Wolfson 8742 and the Plus uses Dual Wolfson 8740.
  14. Bought one a couple of weeks ago. Replaced a 24/96 Dacmagic. Its cheap but a definite improvement over the older one. Using it via USB2, excellant, and I would definately recommend a decent cable. I'm using Furutech Formula 2. Had the case open a few days ago. Very little that can be changed, just a couple of capacitors. I will build a new power supply using a spare R-core transformer and buy in a NewclassD regulator etc, its 12v DC and not AC as before, and see how that fares. The sound is clear and dynamic via USB2. For £199 (UK) I'm very happy.
