  1. Thanks, I appreciate the clarification. (Although now I've got a Jackson 5 song running in my head "mp3 / is not the same as m4p / much simpler on the old LP . . . ")
  2. I'm confused about Itunes downloads -- are they apple lossless or not? Some websites say they are, some websites say the "mp4a" is a misleading file extension because the music is actually mp3. Can someone help me sort this out? Thanks.
  3. I know there are options that allow you to load from your Ipod back onto Itunes if, hopefully, your music's on an Ipod. Other than that, I have no more suggestions for you. You might try to write a succinct history of your problem, steps taken to resolve, and results and post that on Ilounge and MacRumors forums.
  4. Yep, that's what fixed my problem. Localhost kept showing up whenever I tried to get info. FWIW, the link keeps referring to this thread. I had to type it in manually and then go to it.
  5. Hmm. "I copied this from the search window. *.aif,*.aiff,*.m4a,*.mp4a. I tried several combinations . . . It only found mp3's, which are not my main concern." Odd that it's finding mp3 files; based on your search terms it shouldn't find them. I've never searched for multiple file types in one go. Have you tried searching for " *.mp4a " only? Also, are you searching only 1 drive? Why not run the search by going to Windows Explorer / My Computer and running it from there?
  6. Ahh. Thanks for the link. Could you mention some quartets that aren't "hip" so I could compare? Is Kodaly non-hip?
  7. So did you re-locate your music?
  8. Are you looking for " *.mp4a"?
  9. Is there a simple tutorial out there about buying music online and importing it into Itunes? Could I just buy a wav file, put it on CD using Windows Explorer, then import the CD into Itunes? Sorry, but my net searches are turning up results that sound like Greek to me and I'd like to start taking advantage of online music paysites.
  10. Odd thing is, Buchberger started recording these in 2004.
  11. Teresa, Thanks. Yes, it's Brilliant Classics. Funny in all the mental to-ing and fro-ing over whether to buy that set or not, I only considered the likelihood that BC would hire second-class musicians rather than use older technology. I guess I'll plow my way through the set, note the ones that I like despite the noise, and then buy more recent Emerson or Kodaly performances of those.
  12. What do you think is the greatest store to buy CDs from? So far I've found Presto in the UK ( http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/ ) and Arkiv Music in the US ( http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/main.jsp ). They have lots of music, good service and reasonable prices. Any other sources I should know about (especially interested in Ancient, Classical, and Jazz).
  13. I just started listening to Haydn's quartets performed by the Buchberger. Been through Opus 1 & Opus 2. For some reason the strings sound twangy, shrieky, with just a hint of nails across a blackboard. The quartets don't display much of the sweet smoothness I associate with strings from, say, the Brandenberg or Nachtmusik. What gives? Is this a period technique? Do I not know how to listen to this music? Do the Buchbergers stink?
  14. jackfish said, "Isn't that the first thing any PC user would think of to do?" LOL! Nope. The first thing *I* thought of was to shout at the top of my lungs, "I HATE ITUNES." Then the nice man leaned out the window and talked me into coming back inside. I'm much better now.
