  1. So what would you guys recommened for my Setup. Naim NAP 155 XS, 152 XS preamp, Rega DAC, Macmini 2011 (Lion) Today I have connected the Macmini with a optical cable. Would it be better to go for the USB and Integer with The rega dac. Or should i stick with the optical cable? I use Audirvana + (the newest beta)
  2. Hi, I have a rega dac, conneted to my Mac mini 2012 (Lion) via a Toslink cable. Audirvana Plus has just arrived in a beta, and that should be able to unlock the integer feature in Lion? Im a little confused. In audirvana debug it shows me this: Direct Mode audio path Currently playing in standard 32bit float mode Device: 2ch Mixable linear PCM Interleaved 32bits little endian Float, 8 bytes per frame @44.1kHz Active Sample Rate: 44.1kHz Hog Mode is on Devices found : 2 As far as I can see I'm not plain in integer mode. But I'm not sure. what is direct mode? Would it help to connect via USB instead? Is USB any good on reg a? Home somebody can answer my questions... Will integer work in mountain lion? /Holm1981
  3. I allready have used Audiovana for playback. In debug it tells me "Currently playing in standard 32bit float mode" Thats not right. and that is not Bitperfect. And Yes I can switch intergermode on in Audiovana, but it doesn't change anything. You write that Bitperfect isn't the same a integer mode?? Now I'm very confused! If you have a bitperfert stream to your DAC, how can u get better sound if you already have bit perfect playback? in Integer mode? what is that exactly then? I thourgt Integer mode was a nice way to tell you os x to leave you audio files alone, and just send them to Dacs, without any resampling..(That includes resampling to the original output) But anyway, The sound is not acceptable compared to Foobar with wasapi or asio. 'When i tried to install SL I got a kernel error before i got the chance to choose witch partition I want to install on.. Was trying from an usb stick.... Hope somebody ca help.
  4. Hi Audiophilers, Let me begin with the most important information! Im new to Mac and OS X. For about 6 month ago I spent my life savings on some nice HI FI gear. At that time i could not afford a cd player, streaming device, etc, so decided to just stick with my old PC until I found the right solution. So far I have bin using a windows 7 with Foobar/Asio4all/wasapi feeding my Rega DAC with a perfect copy of any digital media file or CD. The sound was perfect. The a buddy of mine showed me his new mac mini with plex as a media center... And it was sold.. everything seemed to be precise what I have bin looking for.. A low fan noise computer with an optical out. I bourgt it without hesitation. (Big mistake I guess) Hooked it up, and everything was nice, besides for the sound on my digital music files. They just wasn't the same as when i used foobar/asio..There is clearly missing details, and the sound does not sound as analogue. After a few hours of googling, I sadly found out that apple has chosen to lock down that driver(or option) so it is not even possible to get Lion to feed my DAC with an untouched pcm signal. What i believe in MAC languages is called Integer mode. Well, If Lion cannot play integer mode, Lion is not for me... So no problem I think. Then I just have to install snow leopard. It can play in integer mode, and I only have to use it as a media center anyway.... I buy the SL on CD. Put in on a usb stick(Right formatted) and try to install that instead.. When i boot up from the usb key, I just get some weried kernel errors..Googled it, and it seems that the only way to get SL on my mac mini is somehow install it on an older mac, using the new mac as a HDD...I don't have another mac, and I'm surely not buying another one.... Is there any smart audiophilers that have some ideas to another solution.. I have bin thinking w7 on the mini... but I i can't even install the prevouis version of OS X., then I think to myself,, w7 properly not an easy install.. What about the future... any chance that bit perfect will come to work on Lion or the next Mountain Lion.?? Or should I sell the mac todaY? Im a little surprised that MAC is called a computer... To me its seems to be a clone of some kind of a console, and a iPhone.. Its a nice peace of hardware... but a computer... NO. Hope that some buddy out there have a nice solution on my many problems /Holm1981 Sry for the bad english...
