Thanks for the responses. Had a bit of a think overnight and tried changing the value of "replaygain_preamp". It does affect the sound volume, so I think that is conclusive evidence that replaygain can control the volume when using my DAC via USB.

I am a Linux user that recently purchased a DAC. Thanks to this website I discovered MPD and could not be happier. I have searched the internet to answer this question but have had no luck. My mpd conf file has the following configuration: audio_output { type "alsa" name "DAC" device "hw:1,0" # optional } With this configuration will replaygain still work? If I want replaygain do I have to send the the audio though pulseaudio? Cheers, Craig
