  1. Makes sense to me. I ended up getting new racks in order to have enough shelves to separate my KTE May from it's PS.
  2. Has anyone heard if the Holo May will have device presets registered in Roon under Device Setup similar to what currently exists for the Holo Spring series of DACs? I set my May as a Spring 2 in Roon. Does not really present an issue since settings can all be manually set but I wonder if Holo will need to send a May to Roon to have this feature enabled? May sounds terrific in my system, much more resolving, transparent and focused in comparison to my Spring. In some ways, I feel the Spring was a more forgiving DAC, the May has an almost eerie neutrality and focus that I associate with Chord DACs for example. The May is virtually beyond reproach, I can't identify any real weaknesses/faults which is a first for me in terms of a digital source. My only complaints would be that I needed another shelf to place the PS, the PS umbilical cord is a bit stiff and I am a bit surprised at how warm the May runs.
  3. I'll answer my own question. I updated my Holo Spring 1 with UX208 board to the 21.16 firmware. Works fine and the sound is much more focused and holographic now. Surprisingly different, you need to hear this to believe it. I had upgraded the USB board a while back (U8 to UX208) and never updated the firmware until now.
  4. I have a Holo Spring 1 that was upgraded with the XU208 USB board. Should I load up this new firmware?
  5. I have an older Holo Spring with the original U8 USB interface and upgraded to the newer U208 module. Super simple install (two screws). I did notice an audible difference however it was slight. This suggests the original interface was not that bad to begin with. I heard a slight increase in detail and transparency. I don't use DSD very often so I am not sure there is much reason to upgrade to the Holo2? I do like the notion of better, quieter PS and better USB interface, Femco clock etc but will wait to see what early adapters think.
  6. Tim, I received your email. Thanks for the continuing support of the products you handle, long after the original purchuse!
  7. I resent you a message with my name. I have ordered some ceramic body fuses since the glass bodied one I currently have is brightish sounding. My Holo Spring has it's own dedicated 15A AC line along with it's own Bryston BIT-15 balanced power supply so it gets clean power. Maybe that is why the 2A fuse lasted so long? It has been used daily since Nov 2017 when I purchased it direct from you.
  8. Yup! Thanks. My Holo Spring came with a 2A fuse. I got it brand new, direct from Kitsune. Hoping a 4A fuse will sound a smidge better!
  9. Thanks for the reply. I did contact Kitsune but it make take a couple days to hear back. Looking at the Holo Spring transformer, it has two taps and both sec 1 and sec 2 are rated at 2A for 115v. So I guess it should be a 4A fuse (the max rating for the transformer)? So I was able to use an underrated 2A fuse (what came new with the unit) for about a year with no issues. My guess is that the 2A fuse was inserted in China for 220v use and it was never changed out for 120v use in the USA? So possibly other folks in the USA have underrated fuses too? Which might explain in part why the 4A Audiophile fuses Kitsune sells sound better? It will be interesting to see if I hear any difference between the normal 2A fuse and the normal 4A fuse once it warms up?
  10. My Holo Spring popped its fuse overnight at some point last night. It is connected to a 15A Bryston Balanced Power Supply with series mode surge protection. It has a 2A fuse but I notice that Kitsune USA is selling a hifi fuse for the Holo Spring with a 4A value? My unit is running at 120v, does anyone know what the correct fuse value is? I notice the DAC operation data on the website lists 220v at 2A, so I would think it should be a 4A fuse for 120v operation? Have I been using an undervalued fuse for a year now? 2A 250v slowblow? 4A 250 slowblow? Thanks.
  11. That will be interesting to hear. The Aqua DACs are terrific sounding. But at $1499 shipped to my door, the Holo Spring is really an amazing piece of gear. I recently upgraded the USB input module from an older U8 XMOS to the newer XU208 XMOS module ($129 from the USA Holo distributer Kitsune) and noticed subtle/slight improvements in transparancy, detail and high freq/spatial cues. I was very impressed with the circuit board and general layout of the Holo Spring while I had the cover off for the upgrade. The ability to handle native DSD (up to 512) and PCM (up to 768kHZ) in a NOS R2R DAC is just icing on the cake!
  12. I own a Holo Spring LVL 1 DAC which I very much enjoy. It is a true R2R NOS DAC (although it has the ability to OS too). I have owned chip based NOS DACs (ie 1543) but the Holo is MUCH better. That said, I have heard chip NOS DACs that are VERY good. I don’t think it matters whether it is discrete or chip based, both ways can achieve top notch sonics. I have owned Schitt Bifrost and did a DAC shootout at my place between my Holo Spring and the Gungnir last weekend. The Gungnir sounded very good but more like a typically hi-fi DAC. Bass was tighter and things were very focused and controlled. The Holo Spring was more energetic and alive sounding IMHO. I preferred my Holo Spring but I could see some people preferring the Gungnir. I did a shootout a couple months ago between my Holo Spring and an Aqua La Scala and in that comparison the La Scala sounded best. But it is considerably more expensive than the Holo Spring and this was in a friend’s system that was setup for the La Scala. The Holo Spring is just an amazing sounding DAC that is a steal at the price. It easily beats my previous DAC (PS Audio PWD II).
  13. You are right in that the Yggy uses a R2R DAC, however it is not a non-filtering DAC like the Holo Spring.
  14. So I upgraded my Holo Spring DAC from the the U8 USB XMOS module to the newer XU208 XMOS (Thanks Tim at Kitsune). I run a MacBook Pro through Wireworld USB cable into the Spring. I have not had a lot of time to listen but there might be a slight increase in transparency and a slight increase in detail? It almost felt a little more yang and slightly less yin. I am very happy overall with the Holo Spring but was curious to see if the USB module had any real effect on the sound, if so it are fairly slight IMHO.
  15. If you purchased your Spring in 2017 then it is the older U8 USB module. You can look at the driver version on PC to check.
