Hi,
I have been a reader (in the background) of this very nice website/forum for a while now. Now has come the time to invest in a new media setup and it seems that computer audio has matured enough to get this job done. For a simple audio stereo setup all seems pretty clear. However when I go into 5.1/streaming/remote control it all gets a bit opaque. I hope some of you can assist me in this quest.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Play NAS Stereo Audio (flac, wav, ape)
e.g.: Windows7 HTPC/JRiver17>DAC>pre-amp>NAD power-amp>2*B&W 803
2. Play Concert blurays (DTS-HD 5.1): win 7HTPC/powerDVD>DAC….
3. Play NAS sinology mkv: win7/XMBC>DAC….
IMPORTANT
Price is not so much an issue, however i would like the system to balance price/quality. Not a system made for fallus contests
SIDE-NOTES:
1. Sources: NAS + settopbox TV + concert blurays + playstation + stream from guests iphone/android
2. Dirac Live room correction software will be running on the HTPC, I would like to guide my playstation and settopbox also through this HTPC+software.
3. Remote control: I would like to be able to use both android as ipad. (so no need to run on tv and use keyboard+mouse). Jriver and android: good combo? Splashtop and teamviewer come into mind.
4. Single room setup
5. My prime goal is the concert blurays: so 5.1 DTS-HD is an absolute requirement
6. Integrated or separated, not really made up my mind on this. I can see the flexibility and upgradability of separated components.
7. Volume adjusting: what will be the best place the do this. Certain manufacturers prefer to do this early on in the system. I would think you do it in your best component
8. The only thing I would like to keep is my B&W 803’s
