  1. Alive. For some reason, I've never gotten pissed at a dog. People, no problem.
  2. ...Hypnotic. Imagine some person, setting, food, drink, (substance), activity that is simpatico with all your senses that you feel just right with.... sorry, just can't resist. i'll spare you some of the details, but back in october my puppies chewed the speaker cables to my main system which happened to be nearly 25 years old. back then, i'd purchase one component at a time after saving my summer earnings and ended up with meitner amps, sota table, and energy reference connoisseurs, which were quite a bit different than today's energy. anyway, because i always left the amps on, chewing the cables fried three of the four speaker drivers and made the amps a little dicey. so i purchased some used shindo amps and just took delivery of a pair of new devore speakers. by 4am on sunday morning, i'd rewired and installed everything. and the first song i put on was waltz for debbie (take 2, of course). i, too, love live at the village vanguard: the ambient sounds, the chatting, the clinking of spoons on saucers. it makes me think we could all--like those seemingly oblivious folks in the audience--stumble upon history. i've never been much of a piano fan in general, but evans alone converted me.
  3. None. No other USB devices and I tried both USB ports. Bummer.
  4. I probably had an email client open most of the time. Doubt I was surfing much. The MacBook was purchased in July. Intel i7, 4 gigs of ram.
  5. The computer isn't dedicated to audio, no. But I tested on two MacBooks, two interconnects, two usbs, three headphones. The only time it sounded better was when I switched sources to an iPod and portable radio. Gordon initially suspected I was using windows and then thought it might be short centerpins on the interconnects. We'll find out because I'm likely to send it to him for servicing. Thanks, all, for the help. Appreciate it.
  6. I don't think the tube has been removed in a very long time because the cover was virtually sealed shut. I removed the tube, reseated it, and everything looked good.
  7. Tried two different macs and two different cables (dh labs and some generic). Same problem. The square USB plug on the brick doesn't fit terribly snugly. There's some lateral play, but the problem doesn't get better or worse when you gently jiggle.
  8. Yes and heard back from him, thanks. finally opened it up (seems like glue or rubber had sealed it). The tube lights fine. The brick is visible on my Mac and all settings appear accurate. But it still crackles and sounds bad.
  9. Thanks very much. I want to open it because there's a clicky static sound. My hope is that the tube isn't seated properly or that it's on the way out. If its not that, don't know what could be the problem. The brick is used but new to me.
  10. If it's specific to the music, like static is, what does that likely mean? Having a similar problem on my Mac.
  11. Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to open the Brick once you remove the top four corner bolts. Can someone save me from myself? Thanks much.
