  1. I also did the Anne Akiko Myers Vivaldi Album, as I already had that CD, so I downloaded the HDTrack version. There was an audible difference.
  2. Just loaded JRiver MC20 onto a Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm getting an occasional hangup on audio playback, I guess it could be described as a pop, it just sounds like the track hangs for a very brief moment during playback. I can't seem to reliably recreate it, but it does come and go. Sometimes it does stop for a while when I restart the program. I've tried a variety of DSP settings as well as audio device settings, changing buffer sizes, memory playback and so forth, nothing seems to consistently work. I did replace the spinning drive for an SSD in the macbook, and I maxed the ram, which is 8G. I've tried several DACs including a Dragonfly, Wadia di122, and a Wadia 321. Any additional suggestions?
  3. Qobuz isn't available to me, as I'm in the US, so I'm going to try the Hugh Maskala album, as it does generally meet the criteria, however, the only available download from Acoustic sounds is the DSD, so it will be a comparison between the rip of the redbook layer of the SACD and the DSD file. I'm still interested in what other people have found to be amazing comparisons, so chime in! I can always use more great music!
  4. Wow! Thanks for the advice. I'll try many of these for certain.
  5. I'm looking for some Tracks/Albums that I can easily demonstrate the difference between CD and High-Res Download, and showcase the High-Res benefits. Ultimately, I'll get the CD then rip the track in native res to do the comparison from the same server, but I'm looking to highlight the benefits a high-res track over just a disc sonic-wise. Just looking for opinions from other listeners as to what they've experienced is being really good and obvious. I'm NOT currently interested in using DSD for this comparison, and best genres for me are Jazz & Classical, but I'm not opposed to other genres if they're a great comparison.
  6. You're not Required to use EoP. It's simply the way to get the device to locations that may not have an Ethernet port. I've used it both ways. I've been talking to them, and they're getting me a second one to try some multi-zone. I should have it by the weekend.
  7. I've been watching this company Simple Audio for awhile, and I've been looking to pick them up as a vendor (I'm an AV Brick & Morter retailer and custom install store). They've only been available in Europe, but they're releasing in the US In April. They're kind of a higher fidelity answer to Sonos, as the price-points, sizes and models are similar, but the concept is a bit higher in focus. Instead of relying on the Sonos-type wireless infrastructure, the Simple system needs to be wired. In order to do this simply where there is no Cat5 in the walls, they've built into every unit a Ethernet over Powerline system, so it can get its info that way. That way it can stream hi-res stuff up to 24/192 (For the US Release, currently the Euro ones are only 24/96 I think). I just got one of these units (The amplified version) pre-release for my store's private audition, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Sonically, it's really good, and it does stream my hi-res FLAC files perfectly over the EoP system. I compared the amp section to a better Marantz Amp, and as expected the smaller digital 50W per channel Simple amp was a little more flat, not as much life in it, but really, not bad for a fairly inexpensive all-in-one unit. The Streaming services are a little thin, right now confined to TuneIn and Deezer, but with the promise of Rhapsody and Pandora on the horizon. Hopefully Spotify and Beats too, but I haven't heard on those. The iPad app is really good. It's way more visual than the heinous Sonos app, and allows multiple users each with separate or mixed libraries. It also has a nice desktop interface, which actually has more ability than the Tablet app. Right now it's only iOS, but Android is suppose to be available in April. Just thought I'd give a brief synopsis of this product in case anybody is interested. Also, if any of our European friends would like to chime in with their experiences, I'd love to hear them. If anyone has any questions, or anything you'd like me to try, let me know. The system I tested with the most is a Krell 222 Preamp, With a Krell 2250 amp, and Wilson Sashas. I have Transparent Wave200 Interconnect, and a Transparent Powerwave power cord, and the wilsons are using Audioquest Go4 speaker cable. My amp comparison was against a Marantz MM7055 running a pair of Totem Hawks.
  8. Audiogon is a great resource. We use it to move used stuff pretty regular. But like all things internet, there are scammers. I wouldn't take it as a given that all people are honest all the time. Just have common sense. Look at feedback and tenure on the site, use the phone, and you'll be in pretty good shape.
  9. Since we're saying hello, I would also like to do the same. I'm new to the forum, but I've been lurking a long time. I'm still in the industry and have been for almost 10 years. I am a owner-partner in a friendly local Hi-Fi shop (yes with a retail storefront and listening areas and EVERYTHING!) in Montana. I sell a variety of products including Sooloos, Wadia, & Audio Engine, but I'm not here to sell anybody anything, I'm always looking for better different ways of doing things and in general just trying to keep up on the new frontiers of the industry for my clients. I've been stretching into this new realm myself, as more people are going this way, and I am learning how to adapt to that desire and to make it the best listening experience I can for them.
