  1. Boy Howdy: I think you're right about B&W 685 in the near field usage. I am using them as a far field and the image and sound stage they provide is tremendous. I also heard a lot of good things about the AudioEngine. How do you like the REL T3? I almost bought the Q105 Mk2 to complement my 685 as the Neutrik connector is the only way to connect to any integrated amp without a dedicate LFE output. I agree with you on the glass toslink. Did you have a chance to compared them against USB and Coxial equivalence? QN
  2. Btw, I'm not sure how much difference my cables make but I used a pair of Transparent Musicwave Super bi-cable speaker cables and glass toslink for digital. QN
  3. Before you buy any speakers, do yourself a favor and check out the B&W 685. I was very skeptical about them but found a used pair on Audiogon for $380 so I bought the unseen and unheard. After two weeks of waiting for their arrival to Tokyo, I immediately hooked them up to a small Wadia 151 powerdac fed by a Micca 950B with my flac and i'm floored. No noise, no hum, no hiss, just clear beautiful midrange and the bass was extremely amazing. Man, these might not compete with my 805Nautilus at home but they will certainly 80-90% close. I was prepared to couple them with a REL sub but I don't think I need to anymore. I'm curious of how much better they sound when driven with alittle more power than the 25w/ch by the Wadia, say like a Peachtree Nova. These suckers are really awesome for their size. QN
  4. I would get a WD Carviar black and a USB3.0 enclosure instead of an external HDD. QN
  5. Jeff, Thank you very much for the info. I've been searching for a smaller REL sub as the Strata III will probably cost more to ship and over kill my small apartment. What's the smallest but musical REL sub that you would recommend? Obviously, i'm buying blind as I can't find a REL AD to demo here in Tokyo. Is there a sub other than REL that use the same type of connection? QN
  6. jglacken, Thanks for the response, if I understand you correctly, the Wadia => Rel Strata => Wilson Watts are piggy-back-ed in series? Essentially, the Wilson will be powered/driven by the amp inside the Rel Strata or the high freq signals just get filtered by the Rel's crossover circuit? Do you notice any loss of signal quality in the mid and high? QN
  7. Hi, I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. Computer audiophile topics never crossed my mind as I don't have much interest in listening to music through headphones and I do have a full blown music room with pretty decent gears (B&W 801N, Krell 650mc, PS Audio DAC...etc). Recent relocation to Tokyo for work has forced me to look at alternatives. The only thing that I could bring with me is a 2TB USB3 HD worth of music in various format (flac, p2, wave..) and my laptop. I thought I could get by with a $300 Sony Soundbar based on the hypes from the avsforum but it was a huge disappointment. Don't get me wrong, it's great for HT in a small apartmen but for it's nowhere close to be audiophile worthy. Knowing that it would be impossible to match my audio system at home, I decided to increase my budget for little better system consisting of: 1. Source: Himedia 900B android based media player 2. DAC + Amp: Wadia 151 powerdac 3. Speakers: B&W 685 4. Interconnects: Glass optical digital cable and Transparent music wave super bi-cables. The only equipment that I auditioned is the Wadia 151 powerdac. I was very impressed with its performance at an Audio show 2 years ago. It was hooked up to a pair of Sonus Faber while getting sourced from the matching 171 Ipod transport. Everything else was based on reviews for people like us, enthusiats. Finally, my question is how do add more bass to this system using a sub like the Velodyne MicroVee if I find the lack of low end response from the 685s though most of reviews rave about their bass. Thanks for your help and I would love to get your inputs on my new system. QN
