  1. Hello REShaman, Thanks for your input. As far as I can tell there are no drivers needed to run my DAC. The website doesn't contain any drivers and it didn't come with a CD with any drivers on it. I will contact the company tomorrow and ask them all these questions. Luckily I am enjoying my music through toslink right now. Cheers
  2. The DAC does show up in the system profiler, you can see it in the above screenshot if you click the file, the forum cut it off. The preamp etc is set up right because I can play music fine via toslink. I hooked the DAC to my Macbook Pro, went to MIDI set the output device to the DAC, tried to play files in iTunes, quicktime, VLC and through my web browser and no sound output happens. When I change the DAC to USB input the light beside 44.1k goes away and no frequency is selected. I am starting to think the problem may be with the DAC itself because I have isolated everything else...
  3. The USB I am using is the audioquest cinnamon, it is usb 2.0 compatible. I read all that on the Moon website and I think the toslink will be the better solution I just wanted to hear the USB connection myself to make the call. Still no sound through USB, I'm going to call the company that makes the DAC tomorrow and see if they can help. Has anyone else ever had this problem connecting a DAC via USB?
  4. Here is what I have: Still no light on my DAC with usb selected. Running out of ideas, feel like drop kicking this DAC to the "moon".
  5. Thank you both for your responses. I have the built in audio set with the loudspeaker and the smiley face in audio midi, I go into PM and I can now select USB DAC and hog mode at the same time. All seems good but there is still no sound. On the DAC none of the lights on the left (frequencies) light up at all when I have the DAC selector to USB. I think this is the problem I just don't know why or how to get it to lock onto a frequency. Any ideas?
  6. I didn't see hog mode in Amarra so I downloaded the trial of PM to give it a shot. I can activate hog mode when using the built in output but I cannot use hog mode when selecting DAC USB, the checkbox is greyed out. Could you explain what exactly you do to get your USB to work? I tried selecting another output in midi but usb in PM, didn't work. Let me know, thanks.
  7. Yes we are using Lion. I am set to 44.1/16 that screenshot was taken mistakenly at 48/16. I tried the power sequence you suggested but it didn't change anything. The DAC shows up fine in the midi but the volume slider is set to 0 and it is greyed out, could this be the problem? Also the DAC show up as "USB audio DAC" in the midi settings, this seems pretty generic, shouldn't the company name show up? Do we need some drivers for this to work?
  8. There is an external apple cd drive, i tried disconnecting it but it didn't change anything.
  9. I've tried different USB cables, I've tried all 4 USB ports on the mac mini and I've tried playing off a CD (external disc drive attached via usb), all to no avail. Any other ideas?
  10. I have tried restarting the music player. I tried at both 48k and 44.1k still no lights show up. I tried using iTunes alone and quicktime player, neither gave anything even though the output is set to USB DAC 44.1k in my sound settings. I made some progress in Amarra, the i/o page now sees the DAC but even if I select that as the output for Amarra no sound comes out. I have attached a picture of what I'm talking about.
  11. I'm using iTunes coupled with Amarra. There is an i/o settings page in amarra but all I see is the built in audio output. I should also mention that when I am toslink the 44.1 light on the left lights up, when I switch to USB none of the lights on the left light up.
  12. Hello everyone, We have a new mac mini and a Moon 100D DAC and we cannot get the DAC to work while hooked up via usb. We have the toslink to mini toslink cable and when the mac mini is hooked up through toslink everything works fine. We wanted to try hooking up via usb to see the sound difference but we cannot get it to work. I go into the audio settings and it sees the DAC but when I have them selected I don't get any sound from my system, we do however hear a few faint noises from the speakers, crackles etc. Is there anything special that needs to be done to get the DAC working via usb? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, Thanks a lot.
