  1. I've been an avid proponent of, and listener to, computer based audio for years. Since I bought my 1st USB DAC I've owned more than 20 along the way. I currently enjoy a Weiss 202 in my main system and a Rega DAC/Audiophilleo in my office. But although I love listening to both systems, the complete lack of high-res content - that I like - has recently made me move back to vinyl. I dusted off my old Linn LP12, upgraded it, added a new arm and cartridge and I'm not looking back for now and here's why: Computer based DAC's have come a long way in both performance and price in the last few years, to where, IMO the difference between the best and a average system is minimal on standard red-book CDs. But the lack of hi-res content, to take it the the next level, for the kind of music I like, has made me move back to vinyl. The point of this message is, I simply can't understand why the effort can be made to produce high quality 180g vinyl, some on 2-disc, 45rpm pressings and yet no equivalent hi-res format is made available. I know this is not true for everyone's tastes, a lot of jazz for example is available as high res downloads, but just looking at some of my favourite albums of last year, seems to illustrate the point. I like indie music mainly: The Horrors - Skying; available in 180g, 2x 45rpm vinyl Elbow - Build a Rocket Boys, 180g, 2x 45 rpm vinyl Bon Iver - Bon Iver, 180g, 2x45 rpm vinyl TV on the Radio - Nine Times of Light, 180g vinyl The only exception for me all year, was Wilco's Whole Lot of Love, available as high-res download and 180g 2 disc vinyl. Where the vinyl was clearly inferior to the download (strangely the vinyl was worse than the standard CD in many ways). I am not saying vinyl is better than computer -based audio or talking about the availability of vinyl vs CD. But much of my favourite music is available, not just as CD and vinyl, but also available in re-mastered, high grade vinyl as well, without a hi-res download anywhere in sight. This I simply can't understand
