After getting lost at the convention center trying to find my way to the better sections, I got stopped and started talking to a rep for one of the <a rel='help' href="http://www.homesecuritysystems.net/">home security systems</a> companies and they were telling me about how their surveillance cameras can now host good (decent) audio capabilities. Other audio was that they can now detect specific sounds like a window breaking, or a gun going off that matches the sound waves using a statistical method that gives a probability match to the particular sound.
